squared_eyes
I finally got mine today!! After being stuffed around by BingRee on the Northen Beaches of Sydney, I originally ordered from BL Chatswood and they have since closed, I was told they were a franchise and this store is a factory store?? They found it difficult to honour the paper work I provided!?! After several calls to BL HQ they get their act together and swapped out the sale from Chatswood to their store. All the time sitting on the counter was a shiny new black TF7000 looking at me! Then came a final blow, this one is a black one, your docket says silver? But I want a black one as all my other AV gear is black. Aaah we cant change it sorry. After more stuffing around I was told to buy another one at the same $1070.00 price and then wait to get a cheque back from BL HQ...your joking aren't you? I said. After more waiting and more phone calls they figured out a way to move the order into their sites system and then exchange it for a black one. I grabbed the box, the docket and bolted out the store before they could stuff me around any more. Got home tonight, pulled out trusty much loved Toppy 5000 and well mannered Toshy HD S25. Hooked up new memeber of AV family and let her rip at auto setup, found 56 channels and some audio ones ( SBS radio sounds amazing when something decent is on, can't wait for Digital Radio in 2009) Set up 'favourites' but don't like how you can't see which signal your using i.e. south ch12 HD or local ch12 HD. I can see which is which when changing channels outside the 'favourites' menu. It just means writing down which channel is best and then re editing your list. A small whinge but the old one did it. The Bitstream/PCM audio is a bit disappointing, but hopefully will be fixed soon. My firmware vers. is March 08 2007. Controller is a beaut, haven't look on Logitech site to see if they have the IR codes yet. Channel change speed is very good, much better than old Toshy, which would run past the channel you wanted if you clicked too many times. Picture quality is awesome, has gone to another level compared to Toshy (I had the latest firmware installed a few months ago) I even need to turn colour saturation down!! The 'time shift' works well. It's a bit ass about to the way T5000 worked but it is great. I left the 'cling wrap' on the front panel as it cuts down the reflection of what's in front and it also dims down the display too. hmmm...the display??? what's with the stupid scrolling display that never stops??? I can understand straight after you change but to keep going and going telling your on ch 9 HD setting...on and on is a real piss off! There's no dimmer setting either?? All in all very very happy with new toy. Glad I took Sony 250Gb HD PVR back as it was a sad sad joke compared to this. Congrates to the Syd crew at Toppy land for all your great work. Well done! :P
squared_eyes
Time left on recording while ch changing is an excellent feature. The 10 levels of fast fwd on a playback is insane!! at 200X you can view a 30min recording in about 5 seconds!
manc01
The next firmware release will contain an option to dim the display & will also contain Ice TV support. As with any new unit there is bound to be a few bugs in it. Luckily Topfield usually get things sorted pretty quickly. From what I have seen it looks pretty good. Picture quality is AMAZING!!! arc888
Picture quality is AMAZING!!! Check out the review thread. Several beta testers owners are complaining the picture quality is inferior to their existing units.
squared_eyes
edit What ever Wheez. I don't know what units they were using before, but this puts my Toshy HD-S25 to shame. PQ is stunning. Maybe cables or antenna they are using? ICE doesn't worry me, for $1.20 per week I get a TV guide which has ruff..very ruff start times of certain programmes and I also get latest AV gear and latest gaming info in the Sydney morning Herald on Mondays. I don't need to know months in advance what is or isn't coming to TV. I sure as hell won't pay for a TV guide only subscription that is being constantly undermined by the major networks so it fails, even the ABC are giving 7 days worth of programming away for FREE!! ICE?..baaah! So far unit boots fast, is very quiet, I wonder what RPM the HD is set too? Couldn't be happier!
Guest brett--
I picked up my Toppy this morning, I am also extremely happy with my purchase. This is my first PVR, and I'm very happy with the unit. I cannot wait for the firmware upgrade to stop the scrolling on the front of the unit, and also to see how IceTV integration works. Brett.
squared_eyes
I've downloaded the IR codes for Toppy into my Logitech 880 and quite a few codes are wrong!! Vol control turns captions on and off?? There's no favourites button? Bit dissappointing Logitech is usually is on the ball.

djvkool
I have just encountered the first problem of my Toppy - it won't display channel 7 HD (70), the program information bar displays all the correct information, except there are no picture nor sound. All the other channel works fine. Anyone has the same problem..??

Pleased to read new owners very happy with their Toppy PQ. I seem to be one of a couple who have less pleasing PQ, the problem is one of crushed blacks. It's been discussed at length in the review forum. Despite this overall I'm happy because its remote works, and the SQ is awsome, two aspects the DGTEC unit it replaces was woeful for. squared_eyes
so should I do DOA returns on it, or just wait until they release the new firmware..?? Mine did the same, it's stupid ch7 cutting out the HD broadcast when the V8 Supercars came on, it doesn't come back when they turn Sydney Weekender on. Cause that show deserves to be in HD and the V8's don't??? I found i had to rescan all the channels in again to get it right. You watch it will happen again today when they start broadacasting the V8's by this after noon at 5.30 it will be stuffed again!! you suck ch7
squared_eyes
I found the best way to enter favourites after re-scan was to hit the enter/list button and then start from the top and go through each channel, i'm in Syd and get 2 of everything collected in the list, select which has weakest signal and use the red button and select delete. Go through and cull all the weaker channels and then go into favourites and setup the most common ones you want to use. It's slow and painful but at least you get a good list of channels. Will no doubt be doing this again today at 5.40PM after ch7 turns the HD broadcast back on!! And you look at how little money SBS and the ABC get and there perfect, hang your head ch7 your a joke! Why is it Ch7's fault - my PVR (Toshy J35) can handle the changed transmission - when the motor racing was on my unit stated CH7 SD Digital 576i then when I was watching the 6.00pm news the unit stated CH7 HD Digital 1080i. No problems at all. I think its the firmware of the Toppy thats a joke.

No ch7 cause it, ch7 are a joke!...my toshy also did the same and it also lost ch70 out the 'favourites' list??...Why?...Sorry, it's not Toppys fault ch7 are hopeless at doing what ch10 did with ch12 (10 HD) for years!! What do you mean by 'crushed blacks' BJ? I'm running a Sony 38" CRT HD set and the coulour is actually brighter and deeper than the old Toshy HDS-25. ZAK248313
Ive currently got the 5000 and a Sony HD STB. Do you think I should get rid of both of these and consolodate into the 7000? Im tempted. Im running ICE atm on the 5000. Has a firmware update date been confirmed yet to when ICE will be compat with the 7000? Cheers

ZAK248313
Cheers Peter. Might take your suggestion on board. Wont be able to live without ICE! Couldnt handle it.
squared_eyes
HI Zak, As an owner of one, I too have a T5000 and Toshy HD S-25 STB combo. Mate, why wait? They're the best, Topfield always sets the bench mark. I'm selling my 5000 and Toshy, very very happy. I am confident Topfield will continue to fine tune and update this product as they have many many times with all their products. Picture quality is amazing, sound is awesome and now you can record shows equal or better than the picture quality of your old Sony. I don't use ICE, cost for free to air info and the fact that ch7,ch9,ch10 are doing their best to undermine it by delaying starts and finishes at peak viewing times put me off it and ABC gives away 7 days of veiwing info for free! Buy the Sydney Morning Herald on Monday and use ICON pullout till ICE is soughted. Make sure you bargain hard and walk away if they won't go sub $1000. ZAK248313
Hey squared. Yeah I know, im really tempted! But I've been using ICE for over 18months and I just couldnt live without it. Its more than a TV guide. Its the ease of use to be able to skim through a whole weeks of TV and with one button its programmed to record. Ive got timer padding setup to deal with any additional delays set by networks so its no big deal.
