Hi everyone,

Probably most of this has been covered but search didn't help me much, I also hope this is the right area for this post....

Bought an ACER 3220B - 32inch LCD TV (1366X768) this morning and at the moment have a DVD player and an XBOX (original, not 360), connected both with RCA via a switch to the AV i/p of the TV.

Below are my questions,

1) The TV makes quite a loud humming noise in operation, is this normal? I realize that its a bit hard for you to know unless you hear it..... (first LCD ever so have no idea).

2) Somewhere in another thread in these forums someone was talking about how they had connected there modded (mine is also modded), xbox to thier TV at 1080i (I don't know exactly what that is but I think it is a better resolution than SD which is what I assume my xbox is outputting). I was wondering how they achieved this, my xbox has RCA leads coming out of the back of it does this matter or do you need better leads like component or something?

3) Is it worth paying $50 or whatever for component leads for the DVD player to TV? (instead od RCA).

4) I am going to plug the xbox and DVD players video connections straight into the TV (to get rid of the switch that i needed because the old TV only had 1 AV input on it). The 2 audio leads went from the switch to my auxilary input on my sound system, how do I connect the audio so that both the xbox and DVD player audio goes to the sound system and not the TV? Do I have to leave the switch in there just to swith the audio to the sound system depending on wether I am using the xbox or DVD player? Or can I just put like double adapters on the auxilary stereo input or something? Or is there some secret place that if all the audio went straight to the TV that it can be output to the stereo from there? There is nothing labelled 'audio out' on the TV that I can see but maybe there is some trick?

Apologies for the long post and if these things have been covered elsewhere, any help at all would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

Craig

After further research and talking to a mate that knows some things,

1) Status:

It would be great if anyone else with the set could tell me if they have a fairly loud 'humming' noise when the volume is 'turned' down to zero that dissapears completely when 'mute' is pressed on the sets remote.

See here: http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?showtop...mp;#entry623802

2) Not going to bother.

3) Yes buying component leads hopefully for about $20-$30.

4) Going to plug all video straight into the TV but leave the audio to go through the switch to the sound system, its not idea but it will do.

Cheers

After further research and talking to a mate that knows some things,
1) Could be to do with your sound setup. Make sure you're actually dealing with the TV. That is you can have a situation where you're adjusting the sound volume using say the DVD or STB Remote. You can set that really low (or off). Then the TV sound is set to really high to get a 'normal' volume. This will create a 'hum' from the speakers. Check that its not the switch or sound system that's causing the issue (ie take them out of the equation to test the TV)

3) Agree ($30 component leads) should see a marked improvement in PQ.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the response.

The noise is still present when only the coaxial antenna cable is plugged into the inbuilt analogue tuner and the volume adjusted with the TV remote (literally the only other connection to the TV is the mains lead).

I also just tried having only the mains and the three AV (RCA) cables directly from the DVD player connected (no switch or anything), and the noise remains.

Thanks

Craig
