Refractor Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 I dont know where you are located (please ad it to your sig) but i posted this earlier.http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?showtopic=47807 Its HD compatiable CRT. Apologies for hi-jacking the thread, but I'm also in the market for a not too expensive HDTV, and am weighing up LCD vs CRT. Is it fair to say that for screen real estate and quality of picture that CRT provides more bangs per buck than LCD? I'm looking at 76-86cm size, and don't much care about the depth and weight of the unit. Is CRT my best value option? Roughly how much would I be looking at paying for a decent CRT HDTV in that size range?
pgdownload Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 Tis quite hard to find a decent HD capable CRT these days. In days gone by (a few years back) CRT definately outclassed LCD and Plasma in all areas. An yes bang for buck sky rocketed as really expensive poor PQ flat panels got popular (cause they're big) and CRTs hit the peak of they're development and prices crashed as they became unfashionable. But that was then. Now days a good LCD or Plasma has few issues, has dropped incredibly in price, great PQ and yes, they're still big 86cm = 32" and unless you're sitting fairly close, you may find SD and HD screens provide a very similar PQ for general TV viewing. IMO the current pick of the panle crop for PQ and great bang for buck is the panasonic LCDs (60A and 600A). The Green Guide just gave them a similar pick of the bunch. Note that RRP on websites are uniformally 20-40% over instore prices so don't trust them. For your specs the TX-32LXD600A is well under $2000. If you don't get an integrated tuner and get an external STB/PVR instead this lowers the cost of the TV more. http://panasonic.com.au/products/category.cfm?objectID=44 Regards Peter Gillespie Maybe have a read of this as it contains some good general info on TVs: http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?showtopic=36191
