Hi all,

a couple of people have metioned that they are looking at buying a 3806 or a 4306 in the near future.

I've managed to secure a reasonable discount through the guy I use to supply my A/V stuff at work. I don't know how it compares to the prices others can get, and if anyone can get better pricing, then I'm happy to jump on a different bandwagon.

As seems to be the norm, I won't discuss prices here, but shoot me a PM and I'll discuss it further there. The price given is for a quantity of 5 or more, and I don't think it matters which model. Including myself, there are 3 interested parties already, so it won't take much to secure the deal, or even better it if more come on board.

Cheers,

Chris

I would like a bit more information on the group buy.

Let me know if the price for the 4306 is below $3000 and the 3806 is below $2250.

Cheers,

Michael

Bugger!

No-one I'd spoken to could give anything more than a shoulder shrug when it came to expected release dates.

Summer 2007 seems a long way away, and is that a US release, or global?

I don't think I want to wait that long, cos my new speakers won't get utilized properly...

Cheers,

Chris

My local hifi guy rang Denon for me 2 weeks ago whilst I was in the shop, and they also told him October. I couldn't wait that long.

Sweet Mother of God, the new ones sound awesome. I will be buying all my new stuff arroun d Nove/December anyway so its all good with me to wait. In fact the other day I was talking to the head guy at a up market audio/theatre specialist store and he was telling me the same thing. wait...wait..he was talking abut the new stuff about to be released in the June USA season. He told me not to do any of my research at all for the moment because the playing field was going to change dramatically with the new gear and rumoured new stuff about to be released. AV Receivers, next gen plasmas etc..etc..

altho if I was a buyer right now, the group buy would be most appealing for sure. Is the group buy strictly for those two models...what about the 2807?

It looks from this that Onkyo might beat Denon to market with HDMI 1.3, Dolby TrueHD , DTS-HD etc.

So receivers with these capabilities are going to be considerably closer than October. Maybe June in Australia?

I still think the Denon's will be the go though because they are attempting to be the "media hub" for the home rather than just receivers with updated specs.

And from what I've heard, the Denon current range of receivers sound really good.

Prior ;a GB now is a good idea .A few salient points about hdmi 1.3 onkyo's and denons.

1.The ps3 and hd dvd players available have lossless decoders[dolby true hd]and dd+ already- no need to buy these again.

2.Only the top of the line denons will get dts hd ma and true hd decoders-the rest will get dts hd ;dd+ only -no lossless bit for bit here .

3.With the decoding in the amp the interactive ihd and blu ray live cannot work- only works for pcm when mixed in the player.

4.sound quality is identical with pcm through hdmi ver1.1/2 and a bitstream decoded in the amp.

If I didnt have a good amp Ide have a 4306 in a flash - blu ray still arent up to speed with bd 1.1 let alone java live

And on the "lossless" stuff, doesn't denon link take care of a lot of that by checking the bit stream to make sure all data is sent to the amp and received?

That's how it's been explained to me anyway...

Denon link is indeed capable of accepting 24/96 dolby truehd/dts hd ma as pcm Chris; but the likelihood of a firewire or denon link player to feed it is remote. It would solve both our problems if one was released lol.In any case the hdmi inputs on the 2 amps can easily take high bit rate true hd/dts ma pcm so no worries.

I read as well that with the new denons only the top ones get the hqv scaling chips and cheaper ones get faroudja or similar .Ide rather buy a hc 5000 projector and get a reon or similar quality built in

SO basically, the current 4306 is "futureproof" in that sense, and if anything, wait for a Denon HD player that has denonlink, and you'll still have all the benefits, but the joy of using the 4306 7 months before the new model, and at a pretty good price...

I've read through all the "why you don't need HDMI 1.3 and why you don't need Dolby True HD" stuff and I'm not totally convinced.

Although a good percentage of receivers today will play PCM over HDMI, the studios are saying that PCM does take up a lot of space on a Bluray disc and they will be moving to coding with Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD not because of improved audio quality but more from the compression. They'll even be struggling to fit all they need onto 50Gig Bluray discs. So from a "future proofing" point of view, I'd rather be in tune with where the studios are going and have the Dolby and DTS standards built in to my next receiver rather than have something that in 12 or 24 months from now, I wished I'd waited for.

Besides, if you have a close look at all the extra functionality that these new Denon's will have built in to become the "media hub for the home" they look really interesting from that point of view as well.

The thing with HDMI is the picture/convienience factor for most people, in that its just one cable, the average home user benefits the most.

Ive read much the same Muzzer ;especially Bob Pariseau over at avs forums. The only reason they encoded with pcm was because the majority of players [ sony;pioneer ;samsung] do not have the required dd+/truehd/dts hd decoders as they were rushed to market to compete with hd dvd.The current hd dvd players already convert dd+/true hd to pcm so there is no reason to have the decoders in the amp.How will you feel when these get upgrades to dts hd ma or 2nd gen bluray players are released with the requisite decoders?

If you buy a 360 or ps3 you will get a lot of media hub interactivity anyway. If you want dts hd ma decoding in your amp Ide guess around $7000 + will get it -maybe too dear?sorry to make assumptions on this one point but.
