I noticed on my girlfriends Optus that on April 10th there is a new music channel known as TMF or The Music Factory.

Any of you insiders know any more about this channel and if Foxtel is getting it? I assume they are...

Whether it becomes available or not is pure speculation on my behalf as I am not an insider.

Optus owns MTV Australia and are testing TMF, it officially comes online on Optus April 10th, but there is no real reason except economics why it should not be available to all platforms including Fox/Austar and Select TV since MTV Network channels are non exlcusive. One assumes the others have/will determine if it is economically viable and offer it, although transponder space is currently almost maxed out on OptusC1 so something may have to go to make room for it. The question is, do we really need yet another music channel?

We do as long as it actually plays music :) and not Pimp My bl**dy Ride marathon.

Yeah... I think we should have MTV and MTV2 like all other countries and move all the pimp my ride crap to MTV2. MTV should only play music.

I agree, I remember the days when MTV was literally just music videos, now there are just crap shows on MTV and barely any music. There is not enough choice of Music TV channels here in Australia. Sky Digital in the UK have almost 30 Music TV Channels many of which are FTA:-

With Sky Digital Subscription

MTV, MTV Base, MTV Hits, MTV Dance, MTV 2, MTV Flux, VH1, VH1 Classic, TMF, Kiss, Magic, Kerrang, Smash Hits, Box, The Hits, Q

Free To Air on Sky Digital

Chart Show TV, The Vault, B4, Classic FM TV, Channel U, Fizz, Bliss, Scuzz, Flaunt, RockWorld TV, R Music TV, Just Fabulous, Bubble Hits

Also they have almost 100 FTA radio Stations!!

Im sure we can do much better than our 6 Music TV Channels and 6 Radio Stations currently on Foxtel

Although I do have to say (coming from the UK) most of the music video channels over there have a playlist of about 50 tracks so it is common to be flicking over and see the same video clip on about 5 channels especially if it is considered to be a "hot breaking clip" last time I was over there (October last year) it was Justin Timberlakes "My Love" on every channel all the time so it does get a bit repetitive. Great to have the choice tough
