Just hear Ryan Adams cover of Wonderwall.

Definitely wins over the original (which I still like, despite it being sung by a pack of tossers).

Hendrix vs Dylan: all along the watchtower

Ry Cooder Vs Elvis: Little Sister

Donald Fagen Vs Drifters/Dion: Ruby Baby

Ray Charles Vs Don Gibson: I can't stop loving you

Wilson Pickett Vs Chris Kenner: Land of 1000 dances

Beatles Vs Barrett Strong: Money

Stones Vs Chuck Berry: Down the road apiece (they had to get one Chuck Berry song right- they'd tried enough)

Elvis Vs Big Boy Crudup: that's alright mama

Elvis Vs Chuck Willis: feel so bad

Elvis Vs Lloyd Price: Lawdy miss Clawdy

Elvis Vs Bill Monroe: Blue Moon of Kentucky

Elvis Vs Little willie John: Fever

Elvis Vs Carl Perkins: Blue suede shoes

etc

Cheers

Mick

Money is an interesting song, I can think of many covers:

The Beatles

The Rolling Stones

The Sonics

Lena Lovich

I quite like most of these covers but can't actually recall the original! I think the Stones and Sonics versions are my favourites.

Yes you're allowed to say that.

Yes that just cost you. Those bastards will sue anyone.

Tom Jones - Kiss

No way, sorry! IMO this version sucks compared to the original, with the falsetto vocals by Prince. To me, Kiss by Tom Jones is a good example of a clearly inferior cover. We will have to agree to disagree on this ...

These come to mind (some of which have already been mentioned) -

Powderfinger by Cowboy Junkies (Neil Young)

Flame Trees by Sarah Blasko (Cold Chisel)

All Along the Watchtower - Jimmi Hendrix (Bob Dylan)

BTW the Cowboy Junkies' cover of Sweet Jane is brilliant, but I still prefer the original by the Velvet Underground - one of the best rock songs of all time IMO

Dub Side of the Moon has remained on the Billboard Reggae Charts since its release in 2003. Included with the liner notes are instructions on how to synchronize the album with the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz and produce a variation of the perceived "Dark Side of the Rainbow" effect.
