I am also interested in 659B. It received a great review from Audioholics. I am also interested to find out about the replacement machine the 661 with HDMI switching capabilities. However, from a bang for the buck perspective, I think the 659B offers more grunt (10W), and a rich set of capabilties. I was also interested in 2700B, but was too slow off the mark (I know - a different class of machine - HDMI, Brown Burr DACs, Upscaling and Upconverting).

A few questions regarding 659B:

i) I know this machine has 8(?) preamp outputs. For future upgrades, can anyone think of a reason why this machine would not work well as a pre-amp?

ii) I am interested in an amp which can help solve some of the acoustic problems from a combined open plan kitchen/family room with wooden floors, different ceiling heights (cross beams added from the renovation) and plenty of glass to reflect sound. Will the Parametric equalisation in 659B help me create a flatter response? I am planning on putting some rugs on the floor.

Could you PM with the details of the potential offer.

Thanks,

Ray.

UPDATE

So far there are expressions of interest from 6 possible buyers including myself.

I will proceed with obtaining a GB price when I have 5 "very interested" buyers and will attempt to negotiation 5 and 10 unit prices. So if you are "very interested" please dont hesitate to advise me so that we can get the deal done and start enjoying this nice little toy.

UPDATE

The Group Buy is on. The retailer has agreed to an outstanding price. PM me for full details.

The retailer is a Yamaha Authorised Dealer and full Yamaha Australia warranty applies.

Interstate buyers are welcome but deliver is at buyer expense (not like 2700 GB from Yamaha directly).

Estimates are about $35 via insured AusPost or $70 via courier.

Payment by Direct Deposit or Credit Card (2% fee applies) or cash/efpos etc in person.

Please note that there is no additional benefit accruing to me for arranging the Group Buy other than receiving the same buy price as all others in the buy. I also have no affiliation with or to the dealer or Yamaha Australia.

Well, picked up my new 659 on Saturday and partially set it up over w/e. Looks and sounds pretty good. Adrian demo'ed the 659 running as a pre-amp through some giant power-amps into a gargantuan Krix centre and some other Krix kits spread around the room. I initially thought the 659 was pushing the Krix speakers and almost wet myself with excitement - lol. But then Adrian burst my little bubble by telling me the power amps were responsible for the unbelievable sound. What a disappointment! That is cruel, being so disappointed on the day you buy your new toy!

Yeah Adrian has a nice setup out there, he's got a Rotel 1080 running Krix Neuphonix mains. Sounds awesome in a room that small

Had I known you where picking them up on Saturday I would have come out and grabbed mine.

Cheers for organizing this group buy as well Gary, great product at a great price.

Regards

Orcist
