bertzz99 Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 I was not in a position to afford the recent RX-V2700 Group Buy even though it was a a great price as I needed to spend quite a bit less on a receiver and have always wanted to get an RX-V659. I called the same retailer in Brisbane as Andrew went through for the 2700 GB and he would be willing to do an outstanding price on the 659. If you are interested in an excellent price on a 659 then PM me with your expressions of interest and if I get a decent response I will set-up a GB on this product. As always, I will not discuss price on the open forum directly. Thanks.
Hydrology Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Now at the risk of causing a problem , you are aware that this unit has been replaced with the 661, which adds HDMI?
curlytopg Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Now at the risk of causing a problem , you are aware that this unit has been replaced with the 661, which adds HDMI? Mark, Is the 661 available in Aus yet? Do you know the RRP of it, just to give a guide? Cheers, Curly
Hydrology Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Mark,Is the 661 available in Aus yet? Do you know the RRP of it, just to give a guide? Cheers, Curly It is available, and comes in at the same price as the 659, which was $1099.
bertzz99 Posted March 21, 2007 Author Posted March 21, 2007 Yes I do know the 661 is here, but buy price on this will be close to RRP $1099. 659 will be substatially less than that!
Muzzer Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 While we're waiting for the answer on that, here's the web link to the specs and features on the 661 from the USA web site: http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/product...DETYP=ATTRIBUTE
Tinsanta Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Does it have OSD via HDMI ? What do you recommend that is cheap and upgrades component to hdmi?
Chesty Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 What do you recommend that is cheap and upgrades component to hdmi? Guys you are hijacking this thread. Lets keep on topic for those that are interested in this GB.
Tinsanta Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Guys you are hijacking this thread. Lets keep on topic for those that are interested in this GB. apologies, didnt mean to, i was just leaning towards a recommendation group buy of a different receiver
bertzz99 Posted March 21, 2007 Author Posted March 21, 2007 apologies, didnt mean to, i was just leaning towards a recommendation group buy of a different receiver I just want to confirm, this GB will not be for the 661, this GB will be for the 659 as the price for the 659 will be considerably better than the 661 and IMO better value for my situation. I did consider opening the GB up to any Yamaha model but decided that the admin overhead of trying to haggle on 5 or 6 different models with a few people for each was not viable. I have researched which AVR is best suited to my needs and that is the 659 as it provides and outstanding 7CH HT as well as 2CH experience for the price. I believe that the 659 is one of the best selling of any AVR for this very reason. I dont want to get into the differences and benefits of each model here, so if you have already made your mind up on the 659 then let me know and I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised at the deal that we may be able to put on the table! Thanks
Doug1503559538 Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 and discussing the capabilities of the item that is part of the GB is definitely on topic. Unless we are returning to 1940's Germany ????
Chesty Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 and discussing the capabilities of the item that is part of the GB is definitely on topic. Unless we are returning to 1940's Germany ???? Correct, discussing the capablities of the item for the GB is on topic. I was referring to questions pertaining to other items of equipment other than that in question that just confuse the thread. Just trying to help Bertz and his GB. They are hard enough to organise at the best of times i am sure.
wheelz Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Bertz have you seen this thread, its what you want & easier than a GB http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?showtopic=47759

warnsey1 Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Yes I have seen this. I am expecting to do a better price than this secondhand one. Cheaper than that on an amp that retails for $1000??? Sure You can get it JB for around the $900 ish mark but getting a new one for less that $750. Unless they fell of the back of a truck you'd be getting an unbeliable deal. Good luck though.

byte-me Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 from memory someone here sent his wife into HN and picked up a 659 for $800 brand new, pretty good deal i thought Twas I, and the ever so lovely Mrs byte that did the deal. Deal Done Here I would think a very good price could be had with a GB as this was a one of purchase with nothing else added to it so good luck with the GB.
The_Preacher1973 Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 Deleted post - item not new as I first thought.
warnsey1 Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 Due to the imminent arrival of 661, the 659 is in "run out" status. Availbale brand new for $699 from here:Excel Hifi 659B These are not new amplifiers. It has the disclaimer saying that items not brand new unless specified and there is no mention of them being new on the page that i can see.

I have not checked if this ad is for new or not but expect that these are refurbished. Quote from this site - "We do not sell brand new items, unless stated otherwise" and I did not see a reference on this page to item being new? Nonetheless, I hope to be able to get a better price than this anyway!
