Neither HD DVD or Blu-Ray are saying it how it is. They're selling a product and telling the fibs they need to tell. Just because you hate Blu-Ray is no reason to believe everything Toshiba has to say without attaching any critical thought to their statements.

So what lies have the HD-DVD people been saying?, and Toshiba for that matter?, so far I don't see them coming up with anywhere near the BS BD has been churning out...

Toshiba states that the reason why the BD sales figures are skewed in its favour are because all those PS3 owners are redeeming coupons provided by Sony. No evidence to back that up. Toshiba don't want PS3 players included in the number of BD players sold, only stand alone players. Talk about FUD. By lowering themselves to Sony's level, they've proven they're no better than Sony. It's ALL BS if you ask me unless it comes from a completely independent source.

No redeeming coupon for BD movies here  I'll be lucky to score a copy of the Bond flick.. as I must pick up the console after work and then I have to set it up....

We were arguing that here long before Toshiba said it, as were many other sites, it's not exactly a secret that Sony are handing out free movies and coupons, so where is the lie or BS there?

Not a lie, and not really BS either, plenty of people don't think a "Games Console" should be counted in comparative HD player sales, not unless you can prove someone bought it as a BD player first, and games machine second.

Sure it's a debatable issue, but Sony knew damn well PS3 sales would help BD marketing, it's why they left the BD drive in the PS3, they wanted to be able to claim all those drives as player sales, but the true meaning of those sales is loose at best, it's the drive you 'must' have if you want a PS3, so is it fair to count them as blu-ray 'movie' player sales?

As much as I believe in fair marketing hype from HD-DVD so far, you want to believe Sony are not the only people playing dirty, it's support for your format of choice, but so far it's been fairly clear who is delivering the cheap shots in this war.

I'll be all over HD-DVD should they follow down that road, but so far, I just don't see it...

SMH's Asher Moses has to be on the Sony Payroll.

I count myself as being reasonably objective about things, but this article has more bias than grandpa's bowls. The title alludes to discussing Toshiba's rebuttal of Sony's ridiculous claims, but then he doesn't mention any detail.... before launching into a full-blown regurgitated Sony marketing spiel of lies.

20000 copies of Casino Royal I believe.

I think they will have plenty left :D .

But seriously, i would be surprised if the PS3 sold that many in the first day. Maybe the first couple of months. Aus is a fairly small market.

the 360 sold something like 30,000plus in the first week in Australia. I posted the exact number a couple of months back, Buggered if I can look again.

You got a quote from Toshiba saying that? Don't think so. Maybe pundits and the like, but not toshiba themselves.

30,421. And Nintendo handily beat that with the Wii IIRC.

Of course who knows how many units Sony has even managed to ship to Australia/NZ for the launch.

Exactly, which just goes to show how stingy Sony are with their "free" movie. If they think they are better than the 360 and the Wii, then they know a third of their first customers in the first week will already be p'd off at them.

Way to start a relationship.

I bet you will. The bias for HD DVD on this forum is so bad it's as if some of you are on Toshiba's payroll. By the way, I don't have a 'format of choice'. I have both formats and could care less who wins this war. Sony and Toshiba are equally at fault in this stupid, idiotic format war. The sooner one capitulates, the quicker we can dispense with this juvenile tit-for-tat nonsense. It's like these major corporations are being run by greedy 12 year olds.

Haven't seen this mentioned yet, but in todays SMH there is a nice article about how Toshiba

is ready to re-launch the HD-DVD format on April 1.

(not sure if this link works, though?)

http://www.smh.com.au/news/home-theatre/no...4153041869.html

general manager of Toshiba's information systems division Mark Whittard said that his company would continue to take on its bitter rival Blu-ray with the relaunch of HD DVD on April 1.

what happen to the relaunch.... it appears an April fool joke after all

Are you saying the "relaunch" will go ahead on sunday? where?

... just I have not heard any more about it, and I thought the journo must have got the relaunch date wrong?

From the very little info released, Castel's rights to Toshiba CE products ends tomorrow (March 31th) and Toshiba regains the rights as of Sunday (1st April) - for all we know there could be a huge stockpile of HD DVD players in the Toshiba warehouse right now ready to be sent to the dealers on monday to be shortly followed by a media blitz!

EDIT: corrected my dates :D

or maybe not. we have read toshibas acknowledgement of just how small the hi-def market is compared to dvd. quite liekly theyre not likely to squander away a whol bunch of money for very small return. especially given our drop in the ocean market we have here.

What the HD DVD market really needs is for the Kung Fu manufacturers to get in and give Toshiba some competition, then there would be some real promotion of HD DVD.

Blu-ray really is not competitive with HD DVD if it is reliant on the PS3 as its numerical base because the PS3 will only have a half life of 2 years before the prices of standalone Kung Fu HD DVD players will be $500 or less.

When this happens Blu-ray will be just another Sony format that will finally fizzle out like all the other monopolies Sony has tried in the past.
