plasmafreak Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 For me it's the PS3. 1. Blu-Ray (main feature that I like) 2. Games - Psone - PS2 - PS3 (Backward Compatability) I know that there may be issues with the PS2 games compatability. 3. 60GB HDD 4. Graphics Only thing that put's me off is the price. But hey the first Playstation, I remember when it first came out and at the Virgin store that was on Pitt Street in Sydney City was selling for around $850 this was in 1994 or 1995. Something like that.
Kirium Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 2. Games - Psone - PS2 - PS3 (Backward Compatability) I know that there may be issues with the PS2 games compatability. May have compatibility issues?? I thought a majority of PS2 games won't work on it and PSOne backward compatibility isn't 100% either.
-Bishop- Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 I really want a 360, it's probably the first time ever I may buy a 'new' games console, I'd be really tempted to buy a Wii, but I'm not convinced it will have the games support there, even with it selling so well. Not interested 100% until Halo comes out though, then I'll be finding some way to come up with the money, I still think it's a $100 or so too expensive, so I'm hoping it comes down by that much by the time I buy it. The PS3 still screams to me "waste of money", there is no way in hell I'd ever pay that much for a base console, and even if it was $200 cheaper by the time I was ready to buy, it's still too much money for a games machine that may end up playing a dead movie format...
The_Preacher1973 Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 PS3 x 3 networked with GT5 for me and the two boys.

It does make one wonder if the PS3 is a game machine (with few dedicated games) or a Blu-ray player with less than optimum HT connections. C.M

palmag Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 I voted for the Xbox 360, As a PS2 owner (from launch), the main selling points back then were the "DVD" and "Next gen graphics" all of wich justified a premium price for the unit at launch. I see a case of "Deja vous" with the PS3, and cannot justify spending a premium on Sony products yet again, specially when there is no difference in graphics with the Xbox360. as a gamer at heart I will be buying a console in the future once the PS3 and Xbox360 cost the same price, then I will buy a PS3 (if HD loader is available for it) if not, I'll take the Xbox. Oh and I wouldn't dream of using the PS3 for blu ray/games combination- the amount of wear on the laser would be astronomical.Back in the day I used my PS2 as a DVD player and my laser lasted 2 years.
nonny Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Xbox360 for me... - Great controller, especially since Ive modded mine with a better Dpad! - Great online service, PS3 still has to convince me on this, at the moment its lacking. - Great line-up of games this far... with Forza 2, Halo3 etc.. to follow this year - Region free titles from most main developers, which equals 50% off RRP in this country, $109.95+ for a game, no way! - Gradually gaining equal support from most developers, DMC4 this week, Ace Combat 6, Virtua Fighter 5 etc... all coming to 360. - HD-DVD drive, a great option if you ask me and cheap.. $214 is the cheapest Ive seen so far. - Vista/MCE extender, I use this daily for TV, Music, Video so its a godsend. I should point out I'd vote the Wii second simply because its a joy to play... just the lack of titles is disturbing so it really is going to be one of those niche gaming devices for me. PS3, its overpriced at the moment no matter how you justify it. If you're in it for a Bluray player then sure it lessens the blow but the games available at launch are lacking outside of MotorStorm, Resistance and possibly F1. Sony has lost lots of exclusive titles from 3rd parties this generation so now its really up to how good their 1st party games can turn out... I personally dont think the PS3 is a great machine this far but its up to Sony now to turn it around in the next couple of years.
Tweet Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 By the time the PS3 has a significant dedicated game base the PS4 will be ready for launch, around 2010 or 11. A point I have made in the past is the shortening of the life of the blue laser diode when subjected to intense use in a game machine. With the Xbox 360 add-on, it can be easily replaced the next day with off-the-shelf servicing, but the PS3 has an integrated Blu-ray drive which would require it to be replaced by some service centre and would incur a service cost along with the replacement cost if it were out of warranty. This represents 'a loss of use' of the machine for the consumer, especially if there is a cue of people also having drive related problems. This is one great advantage the Xbox 360 has over the PS3......... self servicing, besides being cheap. C.M
Trigg Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 I'll let you know once I have picked up and played the PS3 this Friday. XBox 360 will certainly be hard to beat IMHO
