I have an AE700 I bought as an eBay refurb for $1500 a year or two ago. It came with new lamp (now with 280 hours) and has performed well so far, except for one thing. The first time I screened a black and white movie, the centre of the screen (about 40%) was a blue-grey hue, and the outer edges were a more neutral grey. Highly distracting.

This affect was not initially apparent with colour material, but I've started noticing it more recently (I think the problem is getting worse, although maybe I'm just becoming more sensitive to it).

Can anyone suggest if this is likely to be the lamp, or something else?

My other issues is with our cat. The pj sits on the subwoofer when not in use. As cats do, moggy likes the climbing furniture, and the pj is a favoured stepping stone on the way up. Unfortunately, the AE700 power button is a nice cat paw size circle. The other day I noticed a blue glow in the corner, and then realised it was the pj light through the opaque lens cap. The cat had turned in on during ascent. The moral of this story:

- use a blue background screen, not black

- use a semi-translucent lens cap

- get a dog

Cheers,

The problem is not likely to be bulb related. More likely it's a problem with the polariser or something else within the optical block (panel degradation). You'll have to take it into your local Panasonic Lack of Service Agent and wait for them to break it completely.

As for the cat problem, either get a ceiling mount or turn the projector off at the wall when it's not in use.

You could always buy a cage and either put the projector in it or the cat. I know which I'd choose.

For Sale: Panasonic AE700 with only 280 lamp hours.

Just kidding
