Yeah it's G03. On March 30 to April 1 at the Perth Convention Centre as you mentioned. Entry is $18 for adults. I work just 100m from the Convention Centre so plan to pop in on the Friday (March 30).

$18!!!??? You've got to be kidding. $18 for an event which is, presumably, a huge self promotion?

What is it with businesses these days? I remember when you used to be able to ring a competition line without being charged 55c too....

Yeah I wonder what kind of turn out they will get on the weekend when it is open to Joe public. I'm going on Trade day (the Friday arvo) with a couple of other guys from work as my employer is footing the bill.

Here's the ad for it on Youtube....

Just been having a look at the website. Talk about a cash cow. Have you seen how much they're charging for the actual conference? Do people actually pay that much??

Also, I don't think much of the 'saturation' advertising that Channel 10's been supposedly putting out, I mean I haven't heard of it until now.

<shakes head> I must be getting old!

I can't disagree with anything you're saying there Simon.

I'll post back my experience after I return from it for anyone thinking about going.

I know from previous experience that having a stall a these venues is VERY expensive. The organisers make good money from the exihibitors and then charge you to go and look. What a rought!

Probably nothing that we already know.

Eighteen bucks! Maybe they figure that if all the nerds pre-ordered their PS3 for a thousand bucks or so, what's a mere $18 to them to go worship at the techno altar.

I'd pony up ten bucks to have a wander around this geek-fest, but not 18.

Well I just checked out GO3. If you are thinking of going to check out HT gear I wouldn't bother. Although there was some gear on display it was pretty minimal. West Coast Hi-Fi had a stall as well as Homescreens and a few others. There were some Blu-ray demos on the PS3 and I also noticed they had some HD-E1 HD DVD players, although none appeared to be connected up. There also weren't any isolated areas to demo any sound gear with the booming music of the show pretty much omnipresent.

The show was mainly dominated with computers and gaming stuff which I'm into although I realise many here aren't. They also had some sort of "careers day" on at the Convention Centre so approximately half the floorspace was dedicated to that and the other half to the electronics show.

There were some booth babes  and a free arcade playing area which was OK. I got in for free as part of work but all up I couldn't recommend anyone forking out for the $18 entry unless their kid was entered in the weekend LAN party competition or something. Pretty disappointing really.

To their credit, there's been a fair bit of advertising of late (lift-out in "The West" a while ago) plus ads on TV etc. I think I've got plenty on over the weekend, so will probably give it a miss. Although, taking my new (upgraded) SLR down to shoot the booth babes is tempting...

Don't bother was an absolute waste of time..

Was hoping on picking up some blu ray movies or maby something for my ps3.. and they really had stuff all to nothing..

All i saw was a couple of ps3's running motor storm.. no home theater stuff worth checking out either..

and if your going for the booth babes i wouldn't bother.. they were only a few, so save your money and walk down the murry st mall if you want to check out some talent lol..

I felt so disappointed and couldn't find anything at the show so went over to jb hifi and bought good fellas on blu ray and a ps3 game..

There is another electronics show coming to Perth in June - Electronika 8-10 June. My secretary at work printed off an info leaflet for me as she knows i'm into gadgets and stuff . I know there is supposed to be an 800 person gaming tournament. Anyway the leaflet has a link www.ping.org.au check it out if interested......

Cheers,

I assume that would be to cover presentations and such by the likes of Masaya Matsuura and Hideo Kojima. I have to admit if I lived in perth that would have been enough to get me to check it out.

Keep in mind that $18 doesnt let you into the talks by people like Kojima - thats extra (a lot extra).
