surop Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 Hi All, This may be quite elementary but i need some help visualising this one. A friend of mine has got an Espon 4:3 display (x...) pj that he uses to watch movies. Should he get a 4:3 motorised screen or the 16:9 screen? He mainly uses it to watch DVD's that are displayed in widescreen. He wants an approximately 120" screen and wants to maximise his viewing space. Would the 16:9 or 4:3 screen produce the biggest image when watching DVD's from the 4:3 Projector? (He saw my setup and now wants the screen - i have the sanyo Z4 with a widescreen motorised screen that is now showing signs of wrinkling, although i keep it rolled up most the time? - go figure) Thanks All Surop
glennb Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 Definetly tell him to get a 16:9. It's upgrade proof, and if he watches 16:9 content on a 4:3 PJ, then the top and bottom bars can be zoomed in so they are off the screen. Although 120" is quite big and he would need to be ~5m sitting distance from the screen. And I shudder to think of what the screen door would like on that setup. Anyway, a new 16:9 720p projector can be had for $2,000 (Epson TW700) so he will have options for upgrading later at which point the 4:3 screen will be useless and worthless.
Tinsanta Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 Or possibly get him one that can do both 16:9 and 4:3
