mello yello Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 Thanks BribieG bugger I missed it though And Second Life is? Theres a thread about it here with a Wiki link. Its kind of a Virtual Reality with online interaction. More like Geta Life if you ask me
SimonB1503560073 Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 Aha, okay, yeah, I saw the shorts for it and decided not to bother My existing life is fine with me!
thiskl Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 ... My existing life is fine with me! Damn!!! I was gonna use that line...
pgdownload Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 Surprised you hadn't heard of it. Been a lot of 'news interest' stories about it for ages. At the moment I think only about 2000 Aussies spend serious time playing the 'game'. Its notable because 'land ownership' in the virtual world is linked to a $ value that can be cashed in - apparently a few users are theoretically real millionares now. Didn't watch all of the show but 4 corners was looking into what laws might govern this type of gaming (which is IMO likely to be refined and become much bigger in years to come) - Is it all down t othe EULA you click on when installing the software or should you have real world contract and property rights? Regards Peter Gillespie
thudabot Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 was a very interesting show, people are actually making money selling land and they have also have virtual stock market trading i liked one quote on it which went something like this: "most people watching this will think people using second life should go out and get a first"
Santa1503559644 Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Couldn't bring myself to watch ... can't stomach some "just asking for euthanasia" types. There's one born every minute...
aztec Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 was a very interesting show, people are actually making money selling land and they have also have virtual stock market tradingi liked one quote on it which went something like this: "most people watching this will think people using second life should go out and get a first" The concept is mind-boggling to me that real money can be made in a virtual world, sort of reminds me of pyramid sales schemes, there is no real product, I guess the difference is some people are prepared to pay to be "entertained" and don't mind if they never get anything back. As far as the people making money, like Anne whatever her name is, making a million dollars, would she have been able to do that in the real world, maybe but would probably require much more effort. I wonder if she declares her profits to the tax office. With all the crime, hatred, road-rage, etc. maybe this second-life has something to offer.
jim1 Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 i have enough trouble organising my first life let alone trying to manage a seconed one, think i'll stick to reality
