Foggy Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 Here's a link to an article on political site crikey.com.au Date: Monday, 19 March 2007Crikey's aviation cinematography expert writes: I watched ABC TV's lead news story last night re John Howard's in-flight "emergency" in Southern Iraq -- watch the video here -- and have reached the conclusion that the story may have been something of a contrived beat-up. As the narrative tells it, the plane filled with smoke and was diverted to an emergency landing. We are then treated to footage of the Prime Minister running from the plane accompanied by bodyguards, amidst apparent alarm and looks of deep concern etc. But it's all humbug, as careful examination of the footage shows: One cameraman got out of the aircraft before the PM, in sufficient time to capture him exiting the aircraft. Another cameraman was inside the aircraft, near the rear ramp, and panned with the PM’s party as they ran from the aircraft. However, cut to the second camera as the PM exits the plane, and the first cameraman inside the plane is nowhere to be seen. Very strange – or were there several takes of this? Camera on ground pans with PM and bodyguard as they run past, and we then see numerous passengers calmly walking away from the aircraft with their baggage –so they must have exited the aircraft well ahead of the PM and escort. Which, given the apparent emergency, is unlikely. If you look at the aircraft's engines in the background, the propellers have almost come to a halt when the PM and bodyguard emerge running down the ramp. As anyone familiar with C-130 aircraft will know, it takes well over a minute from the time that the pilot cuts the engines until the propellers actually stop. So the aircraft was stopped on the ground for some time, and had initiated normal engine shutdown, well before the PM was bundled off. Add to that the fact that only the PM and escort are running – everybody else in shot appears calm and relaxed – and the odour of rodent becomes overwhelming.
myrantz Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 Here's a link to an article on political site crikey.com.au Prob because the journos are so used to the dangers in a war zone now that they see this as another typical day in the office. OTOH, this is probably the first time JWH & his bodyguards are actually placed in a situation with a slight hint of danger in it - hence their alarm. (i.e. they are so out of touch with reality)...
FMB Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 Not sure I fully agree with the article. It's quite possible that they didn't take JWH off first as they probably would have assessed the risks around the aircraft before taking him off. If the smoke inside the plane had dissipated and there was no suggestion of any imminent danger, they probably would have left him there until they were sure the area was secure. If I was in charge of the security, I would have considered the possibility that the smoke filled cabin was a deliberate attempt to get he plane back. As for the cameraman already being off the plane, who said he was on it? He could have been on the ground already. The media often travel in separate aircraft. Look at last weeks Garuda crash with Journo's following Downer on a different plane. Everybody else in the shot appears calm??? They were already off the plane! I'd be pretty calm if I was back on the ground knowing there was nothing to fear. As much as I think it would have been scary, it did make bloody good TV watching little Johnny almost pooping his pants as he ran down the ramp. Bloody hilarious.
aztec Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 This is the first thing I thought when I saw it on the news. And the guards faces were blurred out because they were laughing so hard.
Chui2 Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 And the guards faces were blurred out because they were laughing so hard. I thought it was because they were SAS.
Steve C Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 OTOH, this is probably the first time JWH & his bodyguards are actually placed in a situation with a slight hint of danger in it - hence their alarm. (i.e. they are so out of touch with reality)... If he gets re-elected he'd better get used to it... Given that Aussies haven't improved the situation by being in Iraq, Afghanistan or Timor - let alone our Pacific neighbours who feel JWH is a "bully"; he's really only got himself to blame. If our taking action in these countries doesn't improve the situation, then there's something extremely wrong. As Aussies, we expect any intervention we make is worthy of taking, because we genuinely want to improve the lives of others. I haven't seen that happening in these most recent cases, and if Johnnie gets re-elected these countries can look forward to many more years of the same inept foreign policy being inflicted upon them.
mello yello Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 Lil Jihad Johhnys gooooneeeeeee mate. Nothings going to save him....not even a staged terrorist attack. Its too late for all that bullsh1t....the people have woken up to him. Foggy Posted March 20, 2007 Author Posted March 20, 2007 Here's an interesting bit of feedback to the original crikey article: Early Crikey columnist, Dan McNutt, writes: Re. "Howard's C-130 dash: all the angles". Just read your C-130 aviation cinematographer expert's story on the scam of the Rodent being ushered off the plane in southern Iraq. I was immediately suspicious when I didn't see any body armour being worn. I was suspicious earlier when I saw the CH-47 footage in Afghanistan – same deal – no body armour being worn (it's compulsory! Trust me, I know). So this means the footage is all “staged” so that when the aircraft lands, they all take off their protective gear and get a camera on the tarmac to catch it all as if they are normally dressed. It's a f-cking scam. And you know why? Because the Rodent looks a complete dwarvish twerp in body armour and helmet, just like the Moir cartoons. Can't have that bad footage for our Glorious Wartime Leader, now can we? This is reminiscent of Macarthur coming back to the Philippines – his "landing" from the landing barge was filmed and re-filmed about five times.
BribieG Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Howard plan: 1. We've got the dirt on Kevin Rudd because of his dinner date that has come back to haunt him 2. That's in the bag, no problems 3. Having Destroyed Rudd, (whilst throwing a Minister to the wolves, well worth it) I will now swan off to various trouble spots to re-establish myself as the Great Statesman .... 4. Santoro, Santoro? Porn King what Porn King? Queensland Liberal Federal MPs under police investigation ? ......WTF ???.... AAAAAAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHH who needs enemies?
Santa1503559644 Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Toyota & McDonalds are furious! They are going to have to do without 60% of their TV ads, now that Dishonest John is booking billions of dollars of TV advertising time for the run-up to the election. Already the country's biggest advertiser by far, Howard is planning to a final attempt at turning back the tide, by spending an unprecendented amount on spin ... Of course, he doesn't care if the ads fail. The billions given to the networks will secure the vital pro-government advertorial editorial content.
-Bishop- Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 The original footage I saw looked a little staged, while he was running out of the craft there seems to be a few people standing around quite casually in the back ground, and there is no way in hell he would not be wearing head protection on a military craft, so he obviously took time to strip off some gear, which means waiting till the craft was well and truly shut down. 4. Santoro, Santoro? Porn King what Porn King? Queensland Liberal Federal MPs under police investigation ? ......WTF ???.... AAAAAAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHH You know that porn king guy lives just up the road from me, or at least he would be but I think he is in jail currently???
Santa1503559644 Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 If it was staged ... then it would really indicate that Lil' Johnny really has no clue how he looks. Why on earth would you stage a "little frightened man clumsilly leaving aircraft" for the cameras?
Foggy Posted March 20, 2007 Author Posted March 20, 2007 Whaddya mean Santa.... that was his Brave Military Commander running style.

I'd say you're right about Mr Howard not having a clue about how he looks. Don't forget, he is surround by suck-up sycophants who won't be honest with him because they honestly believe their cushy jobs depend on being 'brown nosers'. The "little frightened man clumsilly leaving aircraft" footage would have been one of Mr Howards "thinking on my feet" initiatives. One of those "see how well our Aussie Military personnel" handle this situation that could have been (but unfortunately wasn't) a nasty insurgent attempt on the life of the PM of a country that's only trying to honestly help the locals, by sending armed troops and military equipment as a way to show it's peaceful intentions. The fact that any sharp eyed viewer can spot that there were a couple of goes at getting it 'right', with several camera angles of the same supposed 'run' with the Herc prop blades in various states of rotation, and background SAS and security guards inconsistently placed, shows how hastily it was improvised. I've noticed that since the main report was shown with the multiple angle clips, the subsequent news promoes that include the PM's waddle down the ramp only have one angle... Someone in the PM's 'think tank' has spotted the glaring inconsistency and the media has been given a 'gentle' nudge no doubt...
