THX1979 Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 Hi Yesasia and pricejapan dont carry the Pioneer Blu Ray player so I am looking for an american site Anyone recommend an american company for Av gear?? I realise ill probably have to use a 3rd party like shopthestates etc any advice apprecaited Cheers ps I tried value- electronics and he's waiting on stock
Julian L Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 The Pioneer has proven very hard to find anywhere; you won't find it on Ebay as Pioneer have a thing about reselling their Elite product there. The Sony stand alone player is basically the same player, and also outputs 1080p24fps and can be found well over $500 cheaper. At a retail price of $1500 the Pioneer is a rip-off, even for Blu-Ray.
THX1979 Posted March 18, 2007 Author Posted March 18, 2007 having followed the Blu Ray player threads for weeks I am inclined towards the Pioneer cause it seemed the least glitchy The Sony looks much nicer but its caused a lot of headaches ill keep searching ROB from VE is sold out on the pioneer Id gladly buy a player from Pioneer australia - if they promised to make it Region free for Blu Ray (which is easy to do) but i have a gut feeling what they're gonna say
Spero D. Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 What sort of pricing are you seeing mate, I went to about 5 online sites from Pio USA itself and cheapest was about 1800 USD $1250US + Shipping to Australia which is roughly $150US. If you can get stock as Williamtassone has mentioned above. Id gladly buy a player from Pioneer australia - if they promised to make it Region free for Blu Ray (which is easy to do) but i have a gut feeling what they're gonna say As would I.
THX1979 Posted March 18, 2007 Author Posted March 18, 2007 well there are 33 pages on american ebay for BLU RAY there were about 10 SOny Blu ray players eg http://cgi.ebay.com/SONY-BDP-S1-Blu-Ray-DV...1QQcmdZViewItem about 2 panasonics heaps of SAMMY's about 4 LG dual format players but no pioneer players!!! What sort of pricing are you seeing mate, I went to about 5 online sites from Pio USA itself and cheapest was about 1800 USD you mean Pioneer america would sell online?? ill have to look into that (and set up one of those shopthestates accounts) 1250 + shipping seems a steal (whoever that seller may be) Ill keep lookin thanks guys I dont understand - both the Pioneer and Sony Blu ray player are made in Japan yet u cant buy em from Yesasia or price japan I gues they aren't available for the Japanese domestic market..?
Julian L Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 Pioneer has very strict rules on who can resell their Elite products, which is why you can't find them online. You're best bet is to set up one of those US post box accounts and email some authorised vendors (you should be able to find these on the Pioneer US site). But, even at $1250 plus shipping plus Duty/GST you're going to be paying over $2000 for a player that, according to the reviews on AVS, is no better than the PS3.
THX1979 Posted March 18, 2007 Author Posted March 18, 2007 thanks guys- tomorrow ill try those online sellers i just got mailed from price japan that pioneer do NOT sell blu ray players in Japan i guess everyone in Japan is using the PS3 for their movie playing good night
_moby_ Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 There was a report a couple of weeks ago from an AV column in a Melbourne newspaper that they had just received a pre-production model of a new Pioneer Blu-ray player that would be priced at $1,400 locally. There is a great deal of speculation in the US about a considerably cheaper, non-Elite Pioneer player coming in the next couple of months so possibly the same model as we will get here.
THX1979 Posted March 19, 2007 Author Posted March 19, 2007 yeah apparently Pioneer aren't making the BDP-HD1 as theres a new model in the wings by the way i checked with those online sellers in the USA and they are all out of stock
betty boop Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 yeah apparently Pioneer aren't making the BDP-HD1 as theres a new model in the wingsby the way i checked with those online sellers in the USA and they are all out of stock I find it quite strange personally that neither sony or pio have a standalone blu-ray player for sale in this market. and how long ago was blu-ray launched in this country ?
THX1979 Posted March 19, 2007 Author Posted March 19, 2007 very bizarre Pioneer japan dont have a blu ray player on their website Sony Japan sell Blu Ray burners in Japan but not the BDP -S1 blu ray player strange given that they are made in Japan- by the way Al i grabbed Octopussy James Bond and the Lowry Digital facelift was killer!! Too bad I got the wrong movie (i was after Moonraker
