Damn. I'm going to Sydney for a wedding and trip is going to cost me the best part of a grand - otherwise would have looked seriously at this TV for bedroom. Would probably only use a SD tuner.

Interested to hear from any purchasers as ALDI seem to put them on every 6 months or so.

Looks like the price of LCDs and comparable high end CRTs have just about intersected?

Sorry, meant I would only connect a cheapy SD tuner myself, and if I wanted to watch HD would go to the lounge room!

Hmmm, I have to say that the thought of buying a TV/LCD/plasma without even seeing it running in the shop is a bit weird.

Luckily it comes with a 90 day return policy:

If for any reason your purchase proves to be unsuitable, return it as good as new with all the packaging, accessories, instruction booklets and proof of purchase to your nearest ALDI store for a full refund within 90 days from the date of purchase.

Agreed, but have heard good reports about the previous models and friends & family who have bought ALDI Tevion and Medion stuff are usually very pleased so suppose ALDI outsource to reasonably good quality manufacturers . Have a German mate whose house LOOKS like ALDI (homesick probably) and his TVs, Desktop and Laptop are all ALDI and actually exceptionally good for what he paid for them.

Would definitely take a punt on the TV but, as you point out, keep the car engine running while I set it up and test it out :D:P

I've recommended Tevion gear myself (STB and universal remote). Apparantly the Medion brand is the European stuff, and Tevion is locally sourced rebadged Asian gear, so in that regard you never know what you're going to get.

I'd probably give it a shot if I was in the market for a budget LCD. I'd be less inclined without that return policy.

yes, ive heard about this deal, and thinking to buy it, im not sure if it will be any good, does anyone Recommend this Tevion LCD 81cm for $869? ( im also getting ps3 on thursday, will it be any good for the ps3 )?

Ive also seen an AIKO at BigW for $899. the specs are:

Resolution 1366 x 768 pixels

Brightness 500cd/m3

Contrast 1600:1

Response time 8ms

Viewing angle 170 degree

HDMI with HDCP support

Im kinda in the middle between choosing the AIKO or Tevion ... anyone have any advice?

Im also wondering if the Contrast Ratios has a large visual impact towards the clearness of the screen, where as the Tevion has 1000:1, and the AIKO has 1600:1 ... cuz im kinda new to buying an LCD and im not sure by the specs, will the LCD have a clear display? or kinda jumpy, when i went to BigW the other day, ther are some LCDs that have a poor quality display and are pointless to buy, anywayz someone please help.

Bought a Tevion LCD for my in-laws a while back, they are pretty ordinary (not the in-laws), now has one dead pixel which stands out like a sore thumb. I've owned one of the DVD players and found that to be quite good, but LCD TV, I probably wouldn't recommend.

You can always try it at home and return as previous posters have said.

I just bought one these, there was about 16 of them in store and they sold nearly all of them before I left and I was the first one in the store.

Despite all the angst and mixed feelings seen here and on other forums I am very happy with the TV.

Setup of the TV stations was an instant breeze and use rabbit ears I now get two or three other stations ive never seen before.

Picture quality is much improved over my CRT, I was watching COPS and they allways say "He just through something over there" and I can never see it. But now I saw it for the first time when they though it.

Also my XBOX media center has never looked better, i think for the first time in over a year I can actually read all the menus properly etc.

Just thought I would add my 2 cents so for the money the purchase is well worth it!
