Pioneer Dvr 530h-s Optimization Buggered?

I have the HDD optimization coming up every time it starts now (the unit is 16 months old). I've tried several times to optimize, and it starts with the time counter (about 280mins) but it skips through after a few seconds. It then tells me to optimize again.

Any help people?

Sounds like time for service call! I've never seen the message but it does sound like a HD issue but that's only a guess. As an owner, I'd be interested to hear the outcome.

Might have to, but I have quite a bit to watch on the HDD, and I don't want to lose it.

It's still doing as it should OK, so hopefully ingnoring it for a while won't cause any hassles.

I've had a "growing" problem of the 530 not high-speed recording on media above 8x, and now not even those left at 8x (Verbatim). have to record on a DDV-RW (2x) and transfer to PC.

Never again....
