DPDP Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 Hi all - apologies if this is covered elsewhere... I have a fairly new setup - a 32" LCD Sony TV, a Topfield 5000MP and the LG RC195 VCR/DVDR. At the moment the Toppy and the VCR/DVDR is set to 16:9, to match the TV. I had a program saved on the Toppy HD that was in 16:9. I recorded it onto a DVD, and the DVD reception on AV1(the DVD's input of the Toppy) was in 16:9. When I play the recording back from the DVD, it's been squeezed into a 4:3 shape, with black bars down each side. The DVD will play a commercial DVD in 16:9, so I don't understand why it can't make a 16:9 recording, especially when it looks like it's doing that when you're recording to it. Is this a setting that I've got wrong, or is it that the DVDR simply can't record a 16:9 image?
DPDP Posted March 27, 2007 Author Posted March 27, 2007 Solved! It was the "Auto Wide" seting on the TV, not the DVD recorder, that changed the aspect. When I turned "Auto Wide" off, I could cycle between settings until I got the correct 16:9 ratio for the input! I was going to say thanks to everyone for your help...but I'm still the only one who's posted in this thread!
