digitalj Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 I've been thinking of getting Foxtel, but it's gonna be a while, but going by current pricing: Foxtel: Basic package->$36.95 My Sport-> $15.95 My Complete Movies-> $27.95 My Playtime-> $15.95 (yeah, yeah, your wondering, why my playtime? well, I like the classic cartoons on Boomerang) Foxtel Magazine-> $3.50 Total-> $100.30 Austar: Basic Package-> $36.95 Sports-> $14.95 Showtime-> $13.95 Movie Network-> $13.95 Fun (same as my playtime)-> $9.95 Printed Guide-> $2.50 Total-> $92.25 So why is Foxtel $8.05 per month more expensive than Austar to get the same service? Here's the 2 pages with options, so you can see the channels: http://www.austar.com.au/experience/options.asp http://www.foxtel.com.au/packagescentral.htm
wapping Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 I may be wrong here but i dont think Austar have the 2hours later system. So thats what you pay for.
MattWinter Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 It's a pointless discussion anyway because as far as I'm aware there is nowhere where you have a choice - is this correct?
digitalj Posted March 18, 2007 Author Posted March 18, 2007 I may be wrong here but i dont think Austar have the 2hours later system. So thats what you pay for. I had Austar last year, and they have the +2 service. It's a pointless discussion anyway because as far as I'm aware there is nowhere where you have a choice - is this correct? The point of the thread is to find out why Foxtel is charging more.
DansDans Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 I had Austar last year, and they have the +2 service. The point of the thread is to find out why Foxtel is charging more. From what I can remember there is only one location in Australia where it is possible to get both services - and that is the Gold Coast, and even then there are some conditions. Foxtel service is available on cable only, so if the cables are not available then you need to sign up with Austar for satellite, any other location and Foxtel/Austar will tell you to contact the other.
whispa1970 Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Pay more for TV Guide with Foxtel. You get TVN automatically on Foxtel Sports Package, Austar still have it as an option for $1 extra Fun package is cheaper. Thats why? +2 is available on Austar. The only differences generally are the interactive features for some programs/events. The other thing with Foxtel is that when you order a box ofiice movie, you can view them on multiple STB that you have in the house, Austar box office can only be viewed on the decoder that you order from. Regards,
mattgodman Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 I think because Foxtel uses cables??? Also probably because Foxtel services the major metropolitan centres who can afford to pay more? I dunno.

digitalj Posted March 21, 2007 Author Posted March 21, 2007 As DansDans said, only the Gold Coast has the choice... I said I was getting Foxtel, this thread is not about which service I should go for, more about why is Foxtel more expensive?
CCF Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 I said I was getting Foxtel, this thread is not about which service I should go for, more about why is Foxtel more expensive? Have you ever tried getting in contact with Austar? It's a nightmare trying to a hold of them, let alone getting something fixed. Being that Austar is usually rural Australia, I would assume because jobs out in the bush aren't as high paying as the ones in the city, the prices have been made cheaper for more appeal. I'm sure there are other little features and abilites they can't have... and I know they don't have IQ yet

I'm sure there are other little features and abilites they can't have... and I know they don't have IQ yet You really have no idea of what country people earn,I believe country people earn more than city people, I am from the country and I earn $70,000 + per annum, I also have a friend that has moved from Adelaide out to the country because you earn more and also better living and cleaner air. I have Austar and when I order a box office movie I can view the movie on either my mystar box in the lounge room or in my bedroom through my austar digital box or on both at the same time, but you can only do this when you order the movie on the Austar website by logging into your account and order it that way.Ha ha we don`t have IQ but we have something better (Mystar). Austar does have everything that Foxtel does and is cheaper,my younger brother works for Foxtel and he told me that the Austar Mystar box is a lot better than the Foxtel IQ box.
Hosko Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 Foxtel:Basic package->$36.95 My Sport-> $15.95 My Complete Movies-> $27.95 My Playtime-> $15.95 (yeah, yeah, your wondering, why my playtime? well, I like the classic cartoons on Boomerang) Foxtel Magazine-> $3.50 Total-> $100.30 Isn't Foxtel's pricing this: Basic - 37.95 Sport - 17.95 Complete Movies - 28.95 Playtime - 16.95 Might as well just get Platinum if that's the case, its 105.95 but you get two free box office movie's a month which are usually $5.95 each and save $5 a month if you have an IQ. To me that's better value.
