RoderickGI Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 I've posted this over on the Topfield site as well, so don't bother reading it all again if you have already donw so. Okay, so I've dropped Foxtel as a waste of time and money. (Poor scheduling of programs, repeats, repeats, repeats, and advertising (including self promotion) that was just getting ridiculous.) Now I need a PVR so that I can watch some decent programs, but at my time. There are some good shows on FTA, but they often clash or overlap, and their deliberate delayed start times make channel hoping a pain. You all know this of course, but it goes to my anticipated use of a PVR: I want to record multiple programs at the same time, watch when I want, and zap advertising as they don't pay me to watch it! Oh, and I want a 7 day EPG, preferably a free, but also accurate one. (Has anyone noticed that even Program Guides in newspapers are often inaccurate these days? I have. Networks playing silly buggers, with late updates.) So, I have read lots on this forum, the DTV forum, and elsewhere. I've read the whole Mediastar thread and the BeyonWiz thread on the Topfield site (my head hurts). Read about the Sony HD PVR, the Wintal, Strong, and others. But you just can't beat a Toppy can you! Mainly because if it doesn't do what you want, there is sure to be a TAP to fix it for you. ) I would love to have the BeyonWiz, with the included DVD player, but it isn't here. The TF7000PVRt seems to almost be here, and for $50 more (RRP) than the TF6000PVRt, it seems like a logical choice. But it doesn't have any netwrok connection without extra gear (why on earth didn't they just put a $20 10/100/1000 Ethernet port in there?), and who knows how long it will be before the bugs are ironed out, and firmware upgrades made available? I only need SD at the moment, and for some time to come. All you early adopters can sort out the problems with real HD Dual Tuner PVRs for me. (Not to mention DRM. No, don't mention it!) So, the plan is to go for a TF6000PVRt. I see that there are quite a few people that already have them ( I count about 20 here and on the Topfield site), but few threads on them really. I'm assuming that is because they just work. But there is no Best Price thread. The imminent TF7000PVRt and BeyonWiz must be going to suppress the price of the 6000, so . . . What are the current street prices of the 6000? When? Store? Where? How much? Did you see it and get a quote, or buy it at that price? Come on all you 6000 Toppy owners, share your joy and Best Price info. Cheers
RoderickGI Posted March 16, 2007 Author Posted March 16, 2007 JB Hifi are selling them for $1149. Hmmm, Launched 17 Sept 2006 with a RRP of $1249. IceTV = $1199. Ad Free TV = $1149. I think that is just the ticket price at JB. They must be able to do better than that. I'll find out soon.

This week I received a flyer in the mail saying they have a "grand opening sale". Starts Monday 19th March until 1st April 07 Don't no if they have any 6000 in stock but maybe worth giving them a ring. Purchased mine from Stephen in the AV department, there number is 03 9974 7272 There at 161 Old Geelong Rd Hoppers Crossing. Edited March 17, 2007 by The1
RoderickGI Posted March 17, 2007 Author Posted March 17, 2007 Thx The1. They are only offering $950 at the moment, with room to negotiate face to face (for the 6000). I'll see what I can get my side of town.

Their new DT9022PVR 200GB with HDMI is expected in April. Price about 100$ up on the 920.
50mxe20 Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 Wondering why we need a new thread: Topfield 6000 - Very Little About It On These Forums? Topfield Tf 6000 Pvrt Announced
RoderickGI Posted March 17, 2007 Author Posted March 17, 2007 Well, it's done. I did the four main electronics dealers in Nunawading over today, and came away with a Black TF6000PVRt for $880 from The Good Guys. For details see: http://www.topfield-australia.com.au/phpbb...p?p=96773#96773 Redifim. I very carefully considered the Mediastar, and it was close, but on final balance, I decided for Topfield, specifically the 6000. Their support does sound excellent, but when you look at the delivery dates of their firmware updates, and the success, or otherwise, of those updates, I'm not sure that support is so much better. The ability to use TAPS make solving problems or niggles so much easier. A few other points concerned me, but like I say, it was close. Lyle, those threads haven't had activity for a while, and using them would have diluted my message and the visibility of the post. Frankly, I don't like 64 page, 1200 post threads where a miriad of topics are all thrown in together. I have spent an age reading posts due these long winded threads, which make searching for specific issues and topics difficult. Just my preference I guess. Thanks for the feedback guys.
