SteveV Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 Hi all, Just wondering as to the best output setting for the projector when hooked via hdmi to either the Tosh HD-A1 or the Samsung BDP-1000 blu ray. Given that the panasonic is not a true 1080p projector, should I set it to output 720p or 1080i. What are your experiences that will maximise PQ. Appreciate your feedback. Steve

Steve When my AX100 isnt in for repair, I have my HD-A1 set to output 1080i, and let the Panny do the scaling. Seems to give the best results. This would also be true of any BR player out there.

Steve It's going to depend on whether the scaler/deinterlacer in the projector is better than the scaler/deinterlacer in the player. It seems a few of the early HD players have been pretty crappy at scaling (some simply BOB the 540 lines of the 1080i signal up to 720 rather than combining them to form 1080 lines and scaling that back down to 720). If that's the case then you should definitely send 1080i. In the end, why don't you just try both and see what looks best?
