Anton-P.
I'm posting this here as most HDTV owners would at some stage consider getting a hi-def player. Online shops in US are selling the Toshiba HD-A2 at US$375 free shipping to a US address. It can then be shipped (literally) to Aust for $35 using US Postal Service, delivery time around 6-8 weeks. In addition Toshiba will throw in five HD-dvd movies free. The landing cost of US$410 = A$520 is just over the "threshold" that might make it GST payable, another A$50, but in my experience they usually let it thru free of GST. If just for myself I can get my brother in US to organise one for me, but if there's a group of say 10 he'll try to convince the shop to ship directly from their warehouse (to individual addresses here). Two things to be wary of: (1) You'll need a 240V-110V stepdown transformer, but at 35W capacity it shouldn't be too expensive. (2) Compared to the local HD-E1, this HD-A2 won't play PAL dvds (not about region coding, it just won't do 576i/p), this doesn't bother me much as I still have heaps of dvd players I can't get rid of

The limit is $1000, so you are fine. Andrew.

Anton Are you sure about the postage costs - that seems extremely cheap, but maybe the A2s are very light? Cheers Martin
Anton-P.
Thanks Andrew for the info. Years ago I knew the limit was $500, so it has been upped to $1,000. Martin, I've checked specs the unit's weight is 8-9lbs, shipping weight 13lbs. You can verify at www.usps.com - surface shipping to Aust 13lbs ~ US$35.
