zhkan Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 i'm going to buy Panasonic HDC-SD1 camcorder in Japan since it's cheaper there http://www.pricejapan.com/front/e_good_inf...&category=9 it's a japanese version so only NTSC is supported. Would that be a problem? Even if I use HDMI primarily? i heard NTSC is not as good as PAL, is it still true for HDTV?
Anton-P. Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 I understand HD broadcast in US/Japan is 60Hz versus 50Hz in Aust. Check that your TV can accept 1080i/720p inputs both 60Hz and 50Hz. By the way, is it true that HD-dvd & BR discs marketed in Aust will be 60Hz version same as US? If so the only odd thing out is Aust broadcast, why did Aust stick with 50Hz?
larstetens Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 Does anyone know if this Japanese online retailer is actually reliable/real. Has anyone done any actual business with them? reason being....take a look at their pricing ......like the Sony 52' X-series....CHEAP...Also the pricing for Pioneer Plasmas is good as well....if you ask me.....but then again....will it work in Australia? If they have a good reputation, I'd actually considering purchasing something from them. Has anyone done business with them before?
alanh Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 All, Firstly NTSC and PAL are only used in Analog TV. In Digital TV the number of pixels in all systems are the same regardless of country. All DVDs which are manufactured or recorded domestically in North America/Japan are recorded at 24 frame/s progressive. Domestically in the rest of the world 25 pictues/s is used. HDMI can carry all resolutions of DTV and all frame rates so can carry 24, 25 & 30 frame/s The display must be able to cope with these picture rates. If you want analog signals to record on a video from this camera or edit in program from a video/TV forget it. The next question is what happens if it goes faulty? You will have to also buy a service manual as well or you can forget it. Even so parts can be a problem if this range is not supported. I would contact the Panasonic Service Department in Australia and see if they support this series. Next I would contact customs to find out if you will have to pay GST/Customs duty etc. Lastly you should ensure the battery charger will run on 230 V otherwise you will not be able to use it more than once. Singapore may be better because they use PAL standards there, I'm not sure on HD. AlanH
