Forest Lake Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 Was flicking through the sport channels this morning and noticed Tvn was there.Great work Foxtel for including it in the basic package.
robertr Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 More importanly I trust that the analogue links have gone ( TVN has always been available on Foxtel Cable for the past 2 years) I dont know what the fuss is all about.
Forest Lake Posted March 15, 2007 Author Posted March 15, 2007 Yes it has been available on Foxtel for quite sometime however i believe it cost an extra $12.00 a month. So now its included as part of the basic package its well worth the fuss.

It was $12 per year I got it on 2 years ago & was nevercharged for the second year
JB Melb Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 I paid the $12 the last 2 years. But I now have it twice on channels 520 and 522.
jeanpierre Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 The key gallops racing clubs who own TVN (ie. AJC, STC, VRC, MRC, MVRC and CRV) kissed and made up with Sky who had the Foxtel rights sewn up - hence it's on the digital spectrum for free rather than the punter having to pay $12 a year and TVN having to pay plenty to get on via the federal governments anti-competitive legislation etc. etc.. Suits the gallops clubs, who would prefer punters to watch TVN and punt only on gallops as this increases their share of the betting returns away from Harness & Dogs...
aafuss Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 Saw something about ch 522-TVN on Austar (funny thing is description says FOXTEL).
chalkeroochy Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 TVN is only available on Foxtel's Basic Package if you subscribed to this before 1st May 2006, if you're not, it will only be available with Foxtel's My Sport in your package at $ 15.95 a month extra .... thats $14.95 a month more than with TVN !
S D Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 It might free but the TVN picture quality is rubbish. The exact same vision on Sky Racing is far superior, they must have more bandwidth. I read somewhere here that there was supposed to be an improvement to the PQ, that hasn't happened. It's a shame really because aside from Richard(head) Calendar, the TVN content is quite good.

Unfortunately TVN do not have a clue about digital broadcasting, 2 years ago a very senir technical person at TVN was trying to tell me that Foxtel was giving them 6mbps. There is horrible analogue links which is totally unacceptable when we are talking about Sydney & Melbourne metropolitan broadcasts. Try comparing the FTA to the Pay TV PQ this Saturday you will be astounded by the difference. It is about time the racing industry spent a bit of money on decent cameras. I suspect that they are using cameras from the early part of the last decade ( early 90's)/on the metropolitan tracks, it is no coincidence that Adelaide Racing ( not shown by TVN)has vastly superior PQ than any other state , I suspect that they have upgraded with decent cameras.
