gday ,my first real post so hello to all ,I installed a compro videomate t100 dtv card and it works great..I can get all the free to air channels in Perth (7,9,10,abc,abc2,sbs..plus radio)..reception is good etc but.. there is a problem.. ie.

I power up the system and then run the dtv software (comprodtv3)..everything is fine..The problem is that if i exit the program and then restart it then it does not work anymore..it reports 'no signal' and even a re-scan does not work..If i reboot then everything is ok..i am guessing theres some sort of software/driver conflict ..I dont want to spend hours 'trial and erroring' so any info about this appreciated... I have updated drivers etc. from compro's website..I am running a lot of video software so i suspect its in there somewhere..

ie.

powerdvd

powerdirector

nerovision

anydvd

virtualdub

and so on..should i start clean..be a major hassle :-)

thanks for any info,

steven

Hi Steven,

There are a lot more experienced people hanging around on this thread than I so take what I say with a grain of salt (or 3). This is just my two cents

I had a whole month of problems with my install (DTV300), wierd stuff like you describe that doesn't make sense. In fact, that symptom you describe was something that I experienced often. Someone here suggested I do a full uninstall/reinstall of graphics card/compro software and drivers, which kind of fixed the instability for a bit but it soon came back. I mucked around with updating and rolling back drivers, removing old software (including all those that you list) and a whole bunch of things). But there was still instabiltiy with the DTV software. I nearly threw the card out actually, it was that much of a problem.

It was a dedicated HTPC machine and I had no data loss issues, just a big hunk of junk in the living room so, in a last ditch effort I reformatted and went from there reinstalling everything, updating etc. Worked a treat after this, particularly with recording (which was really dodgy prior to that). I found compro DTV software slightly buggy and basically useless while sitting across the room on a sofa, but that's another issue. Also, I don't use DTV for recording, too buggy. Use webscheduler; its brilliant, easy-peasy, free and there is heaps of support and add ons.

I think that the compro software is buggy. But other's swear by it and will no doubt tell me I'm wrong.

Hope it works out for you

It's the same software/driver family as the T300 so check that thread in this forum. The main problem is if you don't uninstall any older driver when you update or reinstall.

hi again..gave up on this for a while but i just built a new system so tried again..starting from a clean xp install with no other apps installed i have found that this happens..

Reboot the system start the dtv app and evertything works perfectly..If i close the dtv app and then restart it then no signal is found..I then reinstall the drivers using the Repair option and everything works again ! ..I can also reboot to get it all working.. Seems like some change is made when the dtv exits which stops it working until a reboot or reinstall of the drivers..

anyone have any idea about this ??

Until today I had been using the drivers that came on the CD with the card. These allowed me to watch and record TV fine but the scheduler was unfortunately unstable - some times a scheduled recording would fail to start at all, or if it did start it stopped after 10 secs, etc.

So today I downloaded the latest version of the drivers and application software from the Compro website. I see a new interface (which IMHO is not an improvement) and, more importantly, am having the same problem as has been described in this thread. Right now I am going to revert to my old CD drivers etc and find another piece of scheduling software. I have had several goes at removing and installing the driver, repairing it and also the application software but to no effect.

Maybe the newer version of the driver is somehow incompatible with the older hardware/firmware?

Hi,

Can't go past WebScheduler (need to find a version before it went "commercial"). I'm still using 3.3.5. There's work being done on an Open Source version.

There's also RikPvr, you may like to sign up (Link) as a beta tester to try it out.

Indeed WS isn't a bad option to consider. It has forked into 3 versions, the non-commercial version such as you have which is being worked on by a few under the GPL licence (somewhat slowly), there is I gather one called DVB Webscheduler Pro distributed by the DN organisation, but sadly I understand the software is locked to a DN sourced card, and I'm not sure what development path the software is intended to follow, and the original author (null_pointer) has launched a "commercial" version DVB Webscheduler Pro which has progressed with several developmental improvements over the past few months. Confusing given the similar naming, but as the commercial version is under AUD 30, it isn't a major impost on the wallet, and does work well with a range of cards I have trialled.

This worked for me.

Went to the compro website, downloaded and installed the windows 2000 version of the driver

Presto!.

I'm using Win XP sp2, so can't talk for Vista.

Hope this helps

I hope the following helps you:

i hate tv writes:

"My solution was to ditch the compro program and use DVBviewer from www.dvbviewer.com It is awesome!

It doesnt lock up at all now which means that the compro program was the problem all along! It shouldnt either considering Ive got 1.5GB ram and 2.4g processor."

Another from UK, called alias Clumpco, but using a cheap chinese non specified card. Note the behaviour with another program and the final results with DVBViewer:

"Just to chip in that I am getting HD very easily on a £22 Chinese DVB-T card (Geniastar) and using DVBViewer.

It's a bit of a pain finding the right codec/renderer combination but it's worth the effort.

This combo also gets (and shows) the ITV HD test transmissions.

Note that the card is sold with ProgDVB - which is highly unstable with the driver; with DVBViewer it is bullet-proof. "
