Ed H Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 I know that AFL on 10 will be broadcast in HD (I won't mention 7's broadcasts). But does anyone know whether the NRL games broadcast on Channel 9 be in HD? From what I've been able to see, it doesn't look like it is. Are they just not bothering, or will it be introduced later in the season?

Lets hope TEN spark something for HD sports in Australia, including NRL.
minchjp Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 Why would you want to watch bum sniffing in HD. If i was forced to watch the nrl i would want the lowest possible resolution.
BribieG Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 Aha! Now we know why Foxtel sports PQ is so appalling ... it's the bum sniffing!! Clever Clever Foxtel (not to mention how considerate of them )!!!

ibanez5 Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 Uh-oh! The OP had a genuine question which I answered before the GAYFL fanbois showed up.
anthonysimilion Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 Yes. Maybe it would help things if I said I don't really care for either of them?

stazi Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 ARGH!!!!!!!! This is pissing me off. I really want to watch the league in HD *cuts writsts*
mrmaxwell1503559518 Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 Maybe I'm in the minority but I love both the NRL and AFL (Roosters & Swans). Nine need to lift their act and get NRL shown in HD ASAP otherwise it will be another embarressment for the NRL with AFL creaming them all over the park...

I'm also a roosters fan. I'll be at the monday night game btw. EDIT: I could start a petition if required.
staden Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 The picture quality for the Melbourne Storm vs Wests Tigers was stunning. To me it looked like it was made with HD equipment, then downscaled. But without doubt it was the sharpest NRL I have EVER seen. This was confirmed when I watched the following game which looked the same as all the rest from the past few years. Can anyone confirm what equipment was used on Friday night????

staden Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 Hmm, I wonder what this means for the future. I mean they are using the HD equipment already, all they have to do is transmit the full picture to us.

Ed H Posted March 18, 2007 Author Posted March 18, 2007 GlobalTV DP3.Grassvalley Kalypso HD vision mixer Sony 900/950/HDC100 series HD cameras HD EVS LSM XT (tapes) Canon HD lenses. 20:1, 55:1, 70:1. It's funny. With all the hype that is being generated about HD sports on 7 and 10, I would've thought that 9 would jump at the chance to broadcast its sport in HD. Even more so when it has other shows broadcast in HD (CSI: <insert city here>, McCloud's Daughters, etc). It's even odder that they don't, even when they are using HD equipment when recording the game. I wonder if all the crews working at all the games are using the same HD equipment. The skeptic in me is thinking that Foxtel is not broadcasting in HD, so they are holding back on the HD signal on 9 as well as they are in bed together in broadcasting the NRL games. I have nothing to base that on, but it's the only reason I can think of, given that 9 is using HD equipment, yet still broadcasting in SD. It's a shame, I like both AFL and NRL and will watch both. It just gives the impression that 9 is behind the times in this regards.
xtractdigit Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 Only the games from Newcastle and gosford are recorded with HD outside broadcasting gear. NbN is the only nine affiliate that has the gear.Pretty sure its transmited at sd
