Curious Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 Howdy all, Will soon have my 8720 and was wondering how I discover what firmware is on it (I assume I can access it via the menu somehow?) Also, how would I tell if it is in need of an update (assuming it hasn't got the latest firmware) Cheers, Curious
Foggy Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 You enter the Service Menu at your own risk, but you're an adult... so here goes: Press the following key sequence on the remote.... 1. Menu 2. up 3. down 4. up 5. down 6. up 7. down 8. Menu You'll find an option in there to check which version of the software you're currently running. As far as updating the firmware, I think that this can now only be done by an Authorised BenQ Service Centre. Avical used to do it as a value-add service when calibrating, but I don't think they do any more.

brodricj Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 I'd be most surprised if there is any more updated firmware support for this projector considering it's a discontinued model. So the latest firmware (1.15?) should be the last, and it should already be installed as it's been out for quite a while now. By the way, great projector, I'm watching mine now. 1080i>VP30>720P>PE8720 and the PQ is awsome!

Foggy Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 It's not "discontinued" beejay, it's just no longer the top end model. It's still being produced, but it's now their mainstream model, and it's selling quite well.... not surprising at it's current pricing.

Hi Foggy.. had my 8720 delivered and my scope "ozts" arrived this morning so once it is assembled perhaps be able to try it out... my new apartment is "almost" completed after nearly 18 months. I also got Marks am lens and slide and presently designing a ceiling slide support out of stainless steel to be powdercoated to "blend in". btw no contact from Pegar after several reminders... so!! cheers boccaj
Foggy Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 That's great news Bocca (about the projector setup), but not so great about Pegar. For those that don't know, Bocca told me that Pegar had been sold to Integral Furniture.... another one bites the dust in the wake of chinese manufacturing
brodricj Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 ...presently designing a ceiling slide support out of stainless steel to be powdercoated to "blend in". Why make it out of stainless if you're going to have it powdercoated? I made mine out of 2mm galv and it's weight capacity is only limited by the strength of my ceiling joists to carry the load.

Beejay... aesthetics , and as it is fixed thro battened gyprock directly into the concrete slab above... btw my fabrication works is Stainless and Aluminium only cheers
