Dork(original) Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 If you have it all and $17,000 spare this is for you laser link.Dork
mello yello Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 And enhanced with the use of Monster Wireless Cables .... a guy at the store actually pretends to put something in bag for you .....you complain "hey theres nothing in the bag!!!"....."Great arent they..see they are working already " The first post in that article summed it all up ... The ELP 1XRC Laser Turntable misses the point of using a turntable - that is is *analog*, and stays analog through it's entire signal path.Analog has an intrinstically different sound than digital...and that's why (us) high-end audiophiles enjoy it so. A laser turntable has been made before...and it was a flop before, as well. before I even read that I saw "the bright crispness of CD" and thought "yeah its crap"
Skid_MacMarx Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 on my wish list playback without wear and tear! I have many Lps that never made it to CD and probably won't be released on High rez audio formats.. I remember reading about a prototype called the "Finale" in the early 90s .. good to see ELPJ pick up the technology .. shame they cost so much... http://www.elpj.com/main.html Edit .. I remember the "Finale" required a record cleaning machine, it also recommended for the ELP Laser turntable http://www.laser-vinyl.com/RecordCare/VPI_HW165.htm http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?showtopic=168&st=680 Post #695
-Bishop- Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 It will find a place in the market, some guys own records worth thousands of dollars, and can't/won't play them because they fear wear and tear on the record, it may seems like a silly idea at first, but it was made for a reason. Likewise you can take what were very limited release recordings, and make very good copies onto to other media using that thing, sure you loose some of the audio qualities of a needle to vinyl, but it comes down to what may have more value, 'that' sound, or that piece of music. I known guys who would own one of those in a flash if it were just a little more affordable...
Mr.Bitey Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 "all the bright crispness of CD’s coupled with the lush, velvety warmth of" <insert MELLO link here> That part got my attention. Its ugly - very ugly.. not even retro cool ugly. Bah. Might be useful for backing up damaged records - thats about it. The Bitey Mobile Backup Service Van wouldnt even steal obtain one! Bitey
