Madelaide Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 As the title says, JB HIFi in Rundle Mall (Adelaide) had a reasonable collection of BDs in the store yesteryday, second or third isle on the left of the entrance. M.
Cody Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 is that a new thing? JB's here have had them for quite some time, unfortuately priced at $47 for any movies less than about 10yrs old
momaw Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Did they happen to have anything other than the lethal weapon movies, talldaga nights, underworld: evolution, kungfu hustle, into the blue, monster house, the exocism of emily rose, hostel, the omen or a non shrinkwrapped copy of SWAT from the samsung player on display? I guess what I'm getting at, is did they have anything new?

Not that I saw when I went the last Saturday.
RodN Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Was at JB essendon airport today and sheesh they're pushing blu-ray hard. They had 3 sammy's a pana and the ps3 all running on different displays around the display area - and thank goodness none of the displays were the samsung LCD crapomatic. There was a young kid with his dad looking at the PS3 and because the blu-ray demo disk was runnings he's going 'see dad, it's got blu-ray too'.... I'm sure neither had a clue what blu-ray is! None of the titles availabe was any different to the usual.
MELso Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 ...unfortuately priced at $47 for any movies less than about 10yrs old Does this imply that Blu-ray has movies available that are more than 10 years old available?... I guess they're building up PS3 hype in the absence of games more compelling than R:FOM. It will be interesting to see whether the BDs will be shuffled off down to the back of the store in a couple of months to mix with the SACDs, DVD-As and lone HD-DVD JB stocks...

If I choose to buy a PS3 down the track, its for no other reason than to have a BR player. My priority for games will always be the 360, unless SOny has exclusives that are too good to miss. R:FOM is certainly not one of them.

In that case perhaps you could consider the Sony BDP-300? 1080/24p out put as well. June $599.00US Street for less.

No, nothing that new or nothing I don't already have or don't have on order; but that wasn't my point. It was good to see some on the shelf, available, and staff who knew what they were. Contrast this to the girl at Sanity when I asked if they had any BluRay disks and her answer was "which album? - They are a band aren't they?" M.
migrane Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Same situation down here on the South Coast of NSW. JB hasn't had a new disc since "The Omen". No "Corpse Bride". No "Last Samurai". And yes, their prices are all about $39-42. Harvey Norman and Domayne haven't had anything since the initial release. I reluctantly bought some from JB, but mostly have bought from amazon (US and UK) - at least it's cheaper. I certainly don't want to pay ezydvd's prices, so I guess I'm going to have to keep buying from US (watching the region), saving money this way, and then buying locally from whoever has stock at a reasonable price. Yes, I've had the same sort of response from the local ezydvd shop when I asked if they were going to stock high-def DVD's - "you'll find them in with the kid's TV shows"!
Skid_MacMarx Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 It still amazes me that there is so much variation in price between JB stores.
RodN Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 It still amazes me that there is so much variation in price between JB stores. They've been getting really bad on this the last few years.
Spero D. Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Just saw this posted in the BLu-Ray software thread- Just got a Big W catalagou with PS3 pasted all over the back and underneath 14 BR titles as followsBehind enemy lines - X3 - Fantastic 4 - Rocky - all at 37.82 Gone in 60 seconds - Hitch hikers guide - 34.42 Last samurai - corpse bride - 28.72 Unforgiven - goodfellas - enter the dragon - Lethal weapon - 24.82 MI3 - 39.84 Mi box set 97.00 Hope this is of some assistance guys, interesting to see chain store pricing
momaw Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Harvey Norman in Canberra do not even have blu-ray players on the floor. Each JB has the one solitary samsung setup in each store, but it is in a corner away from all the other equipment. Blu-ray is a non-entity here in any retail store. Apparently there is no High Def war cause the only things high def are apparently 1024x768 tv sets and some HD tv tuners
Madelaide Posted March 12, 2007 Author Posted March 12, 2007 Just saw this posted in the BLu-Ray software thread- Good pickup Spero, Pity; I just ordered Goodfellas from Amazon (which will cost more landed)...oh well, I got some other good stuff too though. M. EDIT: My disks just turned up, not bad since I ordered Thursday.

Mine just turned up from Amazon.com in 12 days with Standard Shipping- The Departed- Blu-Ray Bullitt- HD-DVD Vertical Limit- Blu-Ray Entrapment- Blu-Ray Usual Suspects- Blu-Ray The Prestige Blu-Ray Some watching to do tonight
sulimo Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 Unforgiven - goodfellas - enter the dragon - Lethal weapon - 24.82 See. That's a reasonable price that I'd be happy to pay. Let me guess...they're all region locked?
