AndrewWilliams Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Hi, I'm currently using a Dvico Fusion Lite with Windows MCE 2005 and it works flawlessly. It even wakes up from standby to record and sleeps again which a lot of other people seem to struggle with. I'm pondering 'upgrading' to Vista MCE some time in the future and I can't get the Fusion Lite to work properly at all with my copy of Vista. There are some unsupported drivers but they cause frequent BSODs. I'm wanting to switch to a dual tuner setup though and I'm not sure how to go about it. A lot of people seem to have issues with using a PCI tuner and a USB tuner simultaneously so I'm thinking that I should buy a PCIe card seeing as I only have one PCIe slot and one PCI slot. What's the best dual tuner PCIe card under $300. The main things that matter to me are, Vista compatibility, wake from standby reliability and channel changing speed. Cheers

AndrewWilliams Posted March 12, 2007 Author Posted March 12, 2007 OK, it looks like a big card. My 1x PCIe slot is right up against my VGA card so it would probably cause airflow issues. I have another PCIe slot which is much longer. I think it's a 4x PCIe slot. Do TV tuners work OK in these 4x slots?

murrayt Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 But it is worth checking what impact a card may have on other PCIe devices. I've noticed on some motherboards that depending on the combination of cards the PCIe graphics card may not be able to function at rated speed depending on it's companion cards
hired goon Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 G'day, It's called QuattroS What about the "Dual Hybrid PCIe" card instead of the Quattro S? I'm thinking of getting a dual-tuner HDTV card (or two!) and this looks like it would do the job (although I dunno what kind of picture quality it yields). And it looks tobe smaller and cheaper than the Quattro S, too. --Geoff

The Dual Hybrid is the second best Picture quality is software dependent and of course also dependent on your video card and its interaction with the display used.

Is it a better dual tuner? Or better support under Vista? Just wondering why one would be chosen over the other (since I am thinking about getitng a dual tuner card as well, but not under Vista). --Geoff

The price difference betwen the two is only $50 and for that you get two extra DVB-S tuners, should you need them in the future. the QuattroS has also got a better remote and better RF routing. Having said that, If you will never require the DVB-S tuners, DNTV Live! or the remote and are going to use MCE or XP, then the Dual Hybrid is relatively speaking a better proposition
PanaSung Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 It works in any working PCIe slots. Does the QS have s-video input so that it can accept a Foxtel output[scart-s-video cable}...?
renura Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 Does the QS have s-video input so that it can accept a Foxtel output[scart-s-video cable}...? Yes, it has both composite and S-Video
PanaSung Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 Yes, it has both composite and S-Video Ok cool. One more thing....does this card allow you have both Foxtel{s-video} and HD FTA{Antenna} physically connected at the same time....therefore allowing you to choose between FTA and Foxtel without having to unplug and re-jig..? I assume you can't record both a FTA and a Foxtel program at the same time though....?

Yes, you can do both, but not with DNTV Live! software, you will have to use some other software for analogue capture.
PanaSung Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 Renura. Here are my downscaling options for HDTV.....do you think the QS is as good? Also, what would be the usual software one uses for analogue capture?
renura Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 No idea we do not provide analogue capture software (which is what you are referring to), frankly if you are looking for analogue capture cards, look elsewhere. The QuattroS is fundamentally a four tuner Digital TV card, analogue inputs are by-products and unsupported by our software or our support resources.

So does anyone have any suggestions as to what to use if I wanted to be able to capture Digital DVB-T and also capture my Austar? Really struggling to find a solution for this
renura Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 So does anyone have any suggestions as to what to use if I wanted to be able to capture Digital DVB-T and also capture my Austar?Really struggling to find a solution for this If you have Austar which uses Irdeto encryption system, you can use a TwinHan Sat-Ci with an appropriate CAM and subscription card, for DVB-T there are plenty of solutions as you know. You can also use the Dual Hybrid PCIe cards or the QuattroS to capture from the analogue inputs, but we don't support analogue capture in our software.
