Panasonic UK have new models listed on their website for release in May 07.

http://www.panasonic.co.uk/dvd-recorders/index.htm

They also have a replacement for the DMR-EX75 http://www.panasonic.co.uk/dvd-recorders/d...7eb-s/index.htm

The only difference that can be seen at the moment is in the written description "A host of other attractive features also enhance the new DIGA models." But there is no manual available at the moment, so we'll see.

I wonder how long it takes for the new models to reach our shores?

To say these latest models are a dissapointment would be an understatement.

Nothing really amazing... just like car manufacturers releasing "new" models every year that are nothing more than cosmetic.

The real bummer is the lack of a dual-tuner model.

Damn, Was going to get an ex75 tomorrow as a replacement for my old recorder under extended warranty. Now that I have decided to get a Mitsubishi 5000 projector I might have to wait for the ex77 because it has full 1080p capability. Would you notice much picture quality difference between 1080i and 1080p on a 130 inch screen using the mitsubishi?? Is it worth waiting for the ex77??

Thanks,

Gordon

It's SD upscaled and you're concerned with getting 1080p instead of 1080i ?!

Better if you wait for a HD version.

Just trying to see that I get the right components to give the best results. The only real difference I noticed on the ex77 was that it upscaled at 1080p instead of the ex75's 1080i. Even with SD or using it to record Austar as an Austar guy claimed today that Austar digital is Medium high definition I only want to wait for the ex77 if there is a real difference in picture quality.

Is there when upscaling SD. I dont know. Is it just simpler building a HTPC and using that for everything. PC's are easy enough to build and I can throw tons of memory in when I need it. Dont want to kick myself later for jumping the gun.

Either Panasonic Aust are being very cagey, or the DMR-EX77 will not be available in Australia anytime soon.

Below is their response to my query about when/if the EX77 will be available in Oz.

Thank you for taking the time to contact Panasonic with your enquiry.

There is not currently a DMR-EX77 available in Australia. This is an overseas product and there is no plans as of yet to bring this to Australia, it could be months, years or not at all. If you are interested in this item I suggest you keep in contact with us every few months, or visit our website for soon to be released items. I do understand this may seem vague however this is the only information we have on overseas products.

I trust this information will be of assistance however if you do require further support Panasonic have a very informative product web site located at www.panasonic.com.au .

Kind Regards,

Panasonic Customer Care
