Vinny1503560078 Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Does anyone own this? The specs here look good http://www.maya.com.au/hdplayer.html I can't see where to download a user manual to get more details.

I own the 303 (see my sig), and I find that it performs quite well, considering the price. The only complaint would be that the range on the remote is quite crappy. but universal remote takes care of this. Andrew.

Andrew. Andrew, I think you mean 603. I have one too. Works great. The 606 looks like most of the 601 and 603 features in one box. Great value assuming it delivers what it promises. The 603 has been reported to have probs with HDMI over 10 metres, so worth checking the 606 for this if you need that sort of distance.

Vinny1503560078 Posted March 11, 2007 Author Posted March 11, 2007 Very hard to find more specific info on this DVD-606 player. No one has actually said they have one. I've emailed the supplier with some basic questions (1) Does it upscale over component? (2) Does it have USB 2 (3) Doe it support long filenames on DVD & USB? (4) Are there firmware updates?
AndrewW Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 (1) Does it upscale over component? The 603 does, if that is any help. Andrew.

liferider Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 check out the grundig ones off ebay going for 89, they also got 1080i

dkmaj Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 i just bought at coles the MTV upscaling dvd player, upscales hdmi and component, divx/mpeg4 capable, usb2 and memory card readers, and by the look of the remote shown on the ebay link the players are identical. the coles one was $99 ($92 if you can staff discount). the fascia is nicer on the coles mtv one over the maya (personal preference i guess). i use it as a 720P hdmi player and the pq is very good, have used it connected to pana proj and sony 3lcd...
dddp Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 tried the usb input with video files yet? ... either a thumb drive or an external hdd?
dddp Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 tried the usb input with video files yet? ... either a thumb drive or an external hdd? thought i'd try the MTV unit myself, bought one today at coles, don't know and can't comment on disc play formats, but USB formats are very limited - it won't play AVIs at all, it does play the sound track on AVIs, but no video - returning it tomorrow don't much care about whatever else it can/can't do - USB was primary consideration - don't know about HDD via USB, only tried a thumb drive edit, also did notice there was some screen flicker when playing the setup screen - like there was something not right with the display or something was out of synch - remote was also very clunky to use

Oh really? I personally have avoided all the Coles MTV AV gear especially due to the sheer number of returns I get of this stuff (I work for Coles). Glad to hear it worked for you.
catalyst_oz Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 I have just bought and set up one of these using the VGA connection. I get a message HD Content protected when I play a DVD, however the out put still looks good but I dont think it is HD. I have a GVA LCD321 display with an xbox connected via component in 720p (XBMC), HD STB is a Teac HDB820 connected via DVI and finally The Maya DVD-606 Connected via vga. I have played a little bit and found you can play avi's from a thumb drive but I have only tried a couple so far. I have got a question for any one that can help. My componant input has fine white dashes going from top to bottom that are most noticable on black, any one got an idea how to get rid of them? I will do some more test over the next few days and update this post. Cheers Catalyst_oz
dddp Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 found it would play mpeg 1 files ok, but when i tried an avi version 1 it would only play the sound and a text box appeared to say it didn't have the vidoe codec - g-spot identified this file as S-Mpeg 4 version 2
Guest akruzer Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 The 603 does, if that is any help.Andrew. Does it or the 606 upscale over VGA?
