whiteknightoz
Have been looking at the 42" Panasonics for a month or so now but then the Samsung prices seem to have plummeted and went and took a look at the 50" Samsung and must say for the $ it aint that bad and it comes standrad with 2 years warranty. I bargained the guy down to $2,650 for the 50" PS50Q7HDX Plasma with 2yrs warranty. Optional $400 for the 3 yr extended warranty from NATA making it 5yrs (The warranty has a lemon clause) although not totally sold on the warranty. Anyone own one of these Samsungs that can shed some light on their experience?

Anyone own one of these Samsungs that can shed some light on their experience? No, I do not own one yet, but would like to know where to buy for that price. I can personally report instore viewing on own tuners and scaling that this and its 42" baby brother are great pictures. Only other screens that are equivalent in my opinion are the HItachi HD's, very expensive, and the LG ....1G models. The fact that samsung offer a 2 year warranty is a bonus not to be sneezed at. I am currently waiting on the 42" inch to fall into my price bracket (sub $2000) but am tempted by the 50". Only warning is to make sure it has an ac3 audio output if you want more than tv speaker sound. I think the model needs an x on the end, as this was only recently rectified by samsung. Remeber, very few screens are true High Def yet, and their price will reflect it, but a good sclaler on a quality screen will be sufficent for years to come. Blu-ray is years off market penetration, and in AUS the tv channels are not wanting to go full HD as this will reduce their transmission space. Most commercial are 720 progressive for now. If you get one I would love to hear some feedback, am very sick of BS from salespeople.

Not quite as good contrast as the LG, but very good picture and seems more reliable than LG, 2yr warranty is reassurance. As far as HD goes, 70, 90, & 12 all seem to output 1080i (upscaled mostly) mostly, with only 20 outputing 720p. 42" can be had for $1950, 50" for $2600 if in Victoria. Want something thats good for TV + the xbox360.
whiteknightoz
I dont know how some of these salesmen sleep at night.. I went into Don Stewarts and they had the TV for $4,000 on special, i said to the salesmen dont talk price yet I just wanna check out the tv as I havent looked at one. He goes "theres nothing to talk about thats on special and there is little we can do, maybe throw you in a cable" i had a bit of a smirk and walked out across the road at Bi-Rite the guy was like what price have you got i told him sub $2,680 and he's like hang on i will check the computer comes back and with "yeah I will beat that no problems" Surely different stores dont have that much different buy prices? and that cant be their policy not to lower prices otherwise how do they expect to survive. I put it down to some arrogant salesman thinking he could clean up on the sale...

If someone doesn't want your business, go elsewhere. (like you did) If they can't be bothered 'trying' to sell it to you, what are the chances they can be bothered fixing any problems that come up. HyperBLAU
I picked this up last thursday for $2999 from the good guys, with an extra three years warranty for 289. I am very very happy with the tv so far, still wearing it in, and i will probably have to turn off DNIe. Have it connected up via optical to a matching Samsung HT, non HD channels come through very quiet on it. When i saw this in store, to my eyes it looked better than the Pana, but not quite as good as the Pioneer sets. Unfortunately my 360 died a few days before i got this (so angry) so i havent been able to test it. Played some PS2 and Wii on it and i didnt get any input lag, and both systems looked pretty good. SD tv looks quite good on this set too.

nis200979
Channel 70 does NOT output any HD at all.All channel 7 HD is simply progressive SD (ie: 576p) And 576p IS HD, there are plentyof threads discussing this. Don't beleive me, give a regular SRT or other crap tv a progressive scan signal from DVD and it won;t display. Thats becasue the TV is NOT HD ready. But that is a different thread, the point is the Samsung is a great buy, but certainly no Panasonic or Pioneer.

It’s a contensous issue with some, the government here have mandated 576p as High Definition. In other parts of the world this is not considered high definition but “extra definition” . whiteknightoz
For anyone interested in getting one of these sets in Brisbane. The salesguy below said he will sell at this price to anyone paying cash. Bi-Rite Electrical ask for Wally Ph:3809 2411 Samsung PS50Q7HDX - $2,625 5yr NATA Warranty - $ 350 Not bad for just under $3,000 Paul
Heiser202
The good thing with the NARTA warranty...well especially with my Pana 42 inch. I paid $795 for 4 yr warranty. Under the terms for mine was if I didnt use the full term i got a pro-rata back. So I possibly will be getting back $400. I dont think they have that now though. Pretty good considering my pana is going for $900 on ebay. I couldnt sign the warranty over so couldnt offer it on ebay.
whiteknightoz
Did you have to test out the warranty? the sales guy said it has a no lemon policy that once the repair costs go beyond the purchase price of the TV its replaced or something, I was too busy drooling over the tv So I will probably go with the warranty as $350 for an extra 3 yrs isnt a lot of money for piece of mind after reading some of the horror stories on here.. Heiser202
Never used the warranty, Panasonic warranty or NARTA. The Pana SD Plasma hasnt missed a beat in just under 3 yrs. Has been a great TV. Just wished 3 yrs ago i went for the HD version and I would never of upgraded. My sammy arrives friday. I purchased a wall bracket off ebay, same one JB hifi sell for $299, i won for $53 all up with postage. Going to have to sell it straight away cause it aint going to work with the wall i need to put it on. I have to put extra bracing in and dont want to do that. So if you are after a wall mount for your plasma let me know. It wont even be removed from the box. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/SELBY-PLASMA-BRACKE...oQQcmdZViewItem
Red-Hot-Chilli
The DigitalCentre are out of stock for 7 days - does anyone know of anywhere else in Melbourne (preferrably East) that might do this TV for under $2700? I tried Hardly Norms in the QV Centre and the sales droid thought I was joking till I showed him a printout of the ad from Digital Centre, he photocopied it & said he will speak to the manager & call me on the mobile - which he never did, so I presume they can't match. Newtone, who have stores in Springvale and Footscray, advertised this model today in the Herald Sun at around $2600 from memory. I have never dealt with Newtone so I have no idea what they are like. They also had some great deals on other tv's. Some spectacular prices! If you make enquiries with them please report back here with your results. p.s the other thing you can do is cut out the ad and use it to get HN to beat the price which they must do under their pricing policy i.e beat any advertised price.
