-Anthony- Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Hi all, I'm looking into getting this TV. Saw it in person and it was breathtaking. Looks like i'll be able to get it sub $1600 at the GoodGuys. I have a couple of questions though. * On the spec sheet it states that it can do 1080i / 720p / 576p. But can it do 480p/i which is what the Wii can take (component input)? * Also i've heard that for fast moving video / games this screen doesn't perform well. Is this true? * If you have one (or similar) could you tell me what they are like? * Also how does it compare with the following TVs: - Hitachi 32LD9000TA - Panasonic TX-32LXD600A Thanks.
googlevich Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 I played wii on this exact screen last night. Works perfectly, I can't really comment on fast moving pictures because all we played was wii sports, however the picture was brilliant.
-Anthony- Posted March 10, 2007 Author Posted March 10, 2007 Thanks googlevich. The picture was not stretched or anything?

The wii was connected using the component kit so maybe that helped.
-Anthony- Posted March 10, 2007 Author Posted March 10, 2007 Hmm... I'm really interested in getting this one. But i'd like to hear what people say about the other screens i've listed. Just want to get the best one .
Heiser202 Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 I tried the wii through my 66cm sammy and it looked terrible. I mean really bad. Thats with a component cable also. I didnt try to change the settings from what my xbox360 has on that TV.
-Anthony- Posted March 10, 2007 Author Posted March 10, 2007 Argh, thats no good. What model was it? Similar to this one?
nis200979 Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Argh, thats no good. What model was it? Similar to this one? Buy the optional Component (Red, Green, Blue, Red, White) cables and it willlook great. Check out the usual tv discussions, the Panasonic TX32LXD600 is (I think) the best 32" LCD TV, the Philips 32PF9631D is also good. The Samsung is getting a bit long in the tooth and has average scaling qualities.
-Anthony- Posted March 10, 2007 Author Posted March 10, 2007 Thanks. What is the price of the Panasonic? Also which department store sells this model?
Guest Foxty Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Binglee got a Sharp 32" LC32BD6X for $1499 On Retravison's catalogue, Panasonic LXD600A and Samsung 32" LA32R71BDX both at $1799 Jb-hifi Sony 32" KDL32V2000 at $2190. Arh...Retravision listed a new Sharp model 32" with 2xHDMI at $2190...anyone got it yet????? Out of all the 32" tvs...Which one is a better choice?
-Anthony- Posted March 10, 2007 Author Posted March 10, 2007 Good question Foxty. I've only seen the Samsung in person and it looks awesome. But if the Panasonic is any better i'll grab that one .

The Samsung sound is rubbish, but good picture and 3yr warranty The Panasonic has a great sound, front AV oinputs,sd card reader and a better sound. It's downfall, a bit thicker and often requires adapter plate to fir the wall. Philips good too, but sound is average at best. For wall mounting, the adapter/bracket is in the box.
-Anthony- Posted March 10, 2007 Author Posted March 10, 2007 Wow, if that is the only downfall for the panasonic then... hmm... How is the picture on the panasonic compare to the samsung?
Guest Foxty Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 Wow, if that is the only downfall for the panasonic then... hmm...How is the picture on the panasonic compare to the samsung? I went to Binglee yesterday, both screens are next to each other and the Panny looks better in colour. However, they also had Samsung with different sizes at a different display spot, pictures & colour looks awesome, and vibrant. So there you go, i don't what the business trick there.
-Anthony- Posted March 11, 2007 Author Posted March 11, 2007 I saw both these screens yesterday side by side in 3 different stores. The Panasonic in my opinion wins by far. The Samsung's picture just isnt sharp and the colour vibrancy isn't as good. Also there is much less blur on fast moving shots with the Panasonic.

-Anthony- Posted April 5, 2007 Author Posted April 5, 2007 I went to at least 5 different stores with different setups (so far). At least 2 of them we sat there for 25 minutes configuring the two TV's. I was so convinced by the Panasonic that I bought it last week from the Good Guys. It's on backorder, I should receive it next week.
Chairman7 Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 Hi Everybody, I have a question about these Samsungs. I can't start a new thread to ask and this was the closest thread. I am sorry for my attempted hi-jacking. I am interested in the LA40R71BX. I currently use a LG HDD / DVD recorder (model RH7521W) to record SD analogue TV (both free-to-air via the RF Aerial and Foxtel digital satellite). I like my set-up for its ease and I don't want to spend more $ on a digital PVR. I just want to be able to continue to record SD analogue TV. I am not interested in taping HD or digital. My question is as follows if I continue my current set up of Aerial ---> HDD / DVD Recorder ----> TV (set top box) will I loose digital quality? I other words will I loose digital quality when the signal is passed through the HDD / DVD Recorder? I seen elsewhere in a sony manual a description of such a set-up but nowhere else? I am seen many posts of people wanting to record HD, again I don't want to do this. I just want to be able to continue to record SD analogue (until 2010) and watch HD broadcasts without the picture quality decreasing because it has taken a tour through the HDD / DVD recorder? I have been researching this for hours now and I feel like I have been lead down the garden path by salespeople. Your assistence would be most welcome. Thank you
