Yamaha Rx-v2700b Group Buy

Recommended Posts

I'm getting a Playstation S3 shortly and it has Dolby True HD built in but don't I need it on the receiver as well if I want the very best audio possible from Blueray discs?

Firstly, it's Blu Ray, not BlueRay

Secondly, my understanding is that you can let the HD DVD/Blu Ray player do the decoding for you and send the uncompressed PCM signal to the amp.

Now, the PS3 does not currently support decoding Dolby True HD, but will apparently do so in a firmware update that should be coming shortly (hopefully the one coinciding with the Australian launch in a weeks time).

So, as long as your player can do the decoding, you will be fine with the 2700.

Andrew.

edit: my info was not quite right, have a read of this thread on avsforums

* For all Dolby True HD discs, the PS3 will decode it (5.1 - 7.1) and send it to your receiver as PCM.

* For all DTS Master Audio discs, as of now, no decoder exists, therefore, you can use Optical or HDMI to listen to the core track at still a strong 1.5mbps.

I'm interested in this amp at the right price.

My only concern is that when the serious HDMI 1.3 capable amps actually come out this amp will suffer a massive price drop anyway, but I guess that is a year away.

speculation is that the 1.3 amps will be out around December.

I guess like all things HT, if you keep waiting for the "next best thing" then you'll never actually buy anything

I don't really see the need for hdmi 1.3, to be honest.

Andrew.

I'd love to have an HDMI capable amp instead of my old clunker (3805). However, until this issue (see below) is resolved I think I'll wait and see a bit.
To enjoy the full benefit ofthis disc, you must play this on a HD-DVD plaeyr player in addition to a DTS-HD Master Audio capable A/V receiver or preamp.
from Dts-hd Master Audio Demo Hd-dvd Disc

Unless, of course, the GB is outstanding. :D

I think it is :P

Listen up guys, I have secured what I believe to be a fantastic deal through a local retailer.

I am not going to publish the details, if you are interested please send me a PM.

I want my toys now  so I want to try and wrap this up as quickly as possible.

For those already on the list, I am sending you a PM right now with the details.

Cheers,

Andrew.

Lyle, what HD source are you using ?

The PS3 will supposedly be able to decode DTS-HD MA to LPCM after the March firmware upgrade.

However, I don't believe any of the current HD DVD players can do this

Cheers,

Andrew.

Do we know if this March firmware upgrade is confirmed or is it speculation?

I am also registering my interest on the group buy.

Are you able to confirm if the 2700 will pass through 576i as i have found that the 2600 with conversion set to "off", component i/p set to "off" my 576i input on component gets deinterlaced to 576p on HDMI output.

Andrew is organising the group buy but hes not making money out of it, so you cant expect him to be finding all this info out for you. But as I have a 2700, it acts the same in this regard as the 2600.

And boy, its taking more effort than I ever thought it would, would of thought so many people would be interested  ?

Thanks for the help Mark, I doubt I would have been able to answer that one anyway.

Elmo, check your PM for details on the GB.

Andrew.

OK,

I've finished going through and sending the details to everyone who has requested them.

Please let me know if I missed you somehow.

Now the good news.

So far, I have 4 confirmed "orders" (mine included), so we only need one more person and the deal is definitely on.

At this point, I will be looking at closing the deal on Sunday night, so get in quick if you are interested.

Cheers,

Andrew.

Andrew, I'm interested in your group buy for the Yamaha 2700.

I have only just joined this forum and can not seem to send you a PM.

Any chance you could let me know about your deal and what is required to undertake. Thanks

UPDATE:

I now well and truly have the 5 orders needed for the group buy to go ahead.

So if you are keen please let me know as I will probably close this off on Sunday.

I'm not sure if the deal will still be available after this point.

This is not a marketing ploy, I have nothing to gain by getting more people in on the deal, I'd just hate for you to miss out.

Cheers,

Andrew.
