Hey guys,

Well the bug has well and truly bit, and it looks like its time to get some decent Audio gear to go with all my newly acquired video gadgets.

I've done a lot of research, and the Yamaha RX-V2700B seems to suit all my requirements, and is close to my budgeted price.

I have absolutely no contacts in the industry, nor do I have any idea of the ins and outs of organising a group buy.

This does seem to be an extremely popular AVR, and I am guessing there might be quite a few people interested in picking one up if the price were right ...

At this point, I guess I am wondering if anyone has any contacts either with a HiFi shop, or Yamaha itself (if that is even possible) that they would be willing to PM me with so I can make initial contact and see what sort of deal I can arrange.

I would also appreciate a show of hands for anyone that might be interested in a group buy for this product.

Cheers,

Andrew.

where are you located and how many are you chasing?

I'm in Brisbane, and I only need 1

But I'd figured I'd ask and see if there was a large demand.

Andrew.

Why not wait until the newer AVr's come out with the new audio formats in them later in the year.(also gives you more time to save)

Mainly because I'm sick of swapping HDMI and optical audio cables every time I want to switch between my HD-A1, PS3, 360 (audio only) and DVD player.

Maybe a switcher would be better for the time being until the new recievers come out otherwise in 6 months you'll be wanting to upgrade again.

I saw a nice joytech 7 component, svid, comp and optical remote controled switch box at EB for $150 also a few hdmi switch bowes around.

Nope, the 2700 does everything I want, and I'd rather not spend a couple a hundred dollars on an HDMI switcher and an optical switcher that I won't need in six months.

Also, I just don't get the full benefit of the audio through my current setup (ie only DD/DTS max).

GB's have been requested here before and have been a complete failure, apart from the VP30. For all the hassles in trying to get a minimum of 10+ people together I think it's just a complete waste of time and effort.

The JVC 1080p projector GB went pretty well just recently

I would suggest you speak to Chai' ( said chow) over at Sunnybank HiFi ( I am only a customer) as the rrp is easily bested and a very nice amp indeed. Hope that helps.

There have been a few recent good ones. The JVC 1080P DILA one, Toshiba HD-XE1, and Topfield 7000Pvrt.

My budget doesnt quite stretch to the numbers being mentioned here ($1800-$1900) but I would love to also own one of these. If there is any possibility that through a groupbuy you can do a lot better than the above prices then I may be in. Wishful thinking I know!

Hi Guys,

Just in case anybody's interested, I just rang Yamaha Technical Support and asked them if this receiver, or any of there other ones can have their firmware updated later to handle the new Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Audio standards that are part of Blueray and HD-DVD discs and the answer was no, they can't be upgraded.

I then asked the guy when I would expect Yamaha to have receivers with these built in as standard and the answer was not the next generation but maybe the one after that....Eg about 18 months off.

Does anyone think that this is an issue?

I'm getting a Playstation S3 shortly and it has Dolby True HD built in but don't I need it on the receiver as well if I want the very best audio possible from Blueray discs?
