Aloysius Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 http://optuszoo.news.ninemsn.com.au/articl...amp;_cobr=optus "Queensland veteran Andy Bichel showed there was still plenty of life in his 36-year-old body by taking a career-best Pura Cup haul to dismiss Victoria for 165. Bichel took 7-54 from 22 lion-hearted overs to single-handedly put the Bulls back into the game before lunch on day two after they were routed for 119 on the opening day." The latest example of guys who by some opinions should be out to grass are staying on the grass and delivering performaces full of ticker. Good on 'em
Steve C Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 Pathetic. Who? The Victorians? Sounds like they were... Mature men can run rings around their younger counterparts any day. While the rings may take longer to run than those run a decade or two ago, they are skillfully crafted and deceptively innocent looking!
Autocrat Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 Who? The Victorians? Sounds like they were... Don't know, I wasn't talking about cricket any more than Aloysius was.
Aloysius Posted March 9, 2007 Author Posted March 9, 2007 Don't know, I wasn't talking about cricket any more than Aloysius was. Wow - help me out here - I have no idea what you are driving at - it's just a plain simple post of admiration for mature to nearly over the hill sportsmen - particularly the Bichel total effort for the team style. Care to share your interpretation?
Steve C Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 Don't know, I wasn't talking about cricket any more than Aloysius was. I'm looking, looking, lo... Nope. Can't see any carefully woven subplot beyond the one Al already stated. Sure I get that he was intimating the PM, but even he's aware that as a New South Welshman, the PM represents a side which has failed to reach the Pura Cup (why change it from the Sheffield Shield?) finals for the first time in almost as long as the present Government's been in power. There's so many confluences in life for us to draw upon for witty and eerily prophetic allusions.

Oh - I get it - well oddly enough JWH does not enter my my thought that often - usually it happens when someone makes what in my opinion is an over the top remark about him that I feel is unjustified - hastily adds that my feeling that the musings are unjustified in no way means that they are any more wrong than I may be. It's also true that I may from time to time object to other musings by others which I don't agree with. Most folks here would fall in the same category I expect - just from a different point of view.

I guess younger forum members would not really understand how gents aged above the so called 'prime' could be so revved up about an older elite athlete's performance - with their being younger of course... Just you wait boyz, because your day will come to understand! There's enough detectives on the prowl around here already without me adding to the glut...

" I guess younger forum members would not really understand how gents aged above the so called 'prime'" You must be talking about yourself Prime is whatever you are at the time - article of faith I remember Mick Jagger saying he was going to shoot himself when reached 30 and was over the hill Another article of faith - "we all get our turn" - unless something tragic happens of course

mello yello Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 at work? Yep Cant give too many details on the grounds that it may incrimminate me...or be used as a confession ...by the Fascists
Aloysius Posted March 9, 2007 Author Posted March 9, 2007 Yep Cant give too many details on the grounds that it may incrimminate me...or be used as a confession ...by the Fascists Bah - no fascists in these hallowed forums Mello: "The word "fascist" ( or "fascism") is sometimes used to denigrate people, institutions or groups that would not describe themselves as fascist and that do not fall within the formal definition of the word. As a political epithet it has been applied to people and groups on the extreme left, the extreme right and most points in between. It has also been applied to people of many religious faiths, particularly fundamentalist groups, and it has been used to label a broad range of people and institutions. Its use as an epithet generally serves to imply that the supposed "fascist" is unreasonably authoritarian. At best, it is considered mildly offensive, although many people find it highly offensive and inappropriate. Presumably your meaning was the highlighted one? The concept of an authoritarian forum member doesn't scan really well does it?
betty boop Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 mature men ? what about mature women I'm sure plenty of them around too running rings around..
Aloysius Posted March 9, 2007 Author Posted March 9, 2007 mature men ? what about mature women I'm sure plenty of them around too running rings around.. oops - you are quite right Martina Navritolova?, Layne Beachey spring to mind immediately, the same principles apply to men and women in this regard.
Steve C Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 oops - you are quite right Martina Navritolova?, Layne Beachey spring to mind immediately, the same principles apply to men and women in this regard. Like red and white wines that enhance the total dining experience, mature age sports men and women emphasise the overall lack of dimension and tartness of their 'rushed into the fray' brash young counterparts...

Waxing fully lyrical there Steve Nonetheless the point is well made, it's not a bad system really, you have to young at some stage and what better time to make mistakes that can then be learned from. Learned from mistakes lead to wisdom and maturity. Well that's my story and I'm sticking to it

Learned from mistakes lead to wisdom and maturity. Well that's my story and I'm sticking to it I've only just begun... to try, so much to say have I; about the young it would terrify, I've only just begun... Rike ah da Japar knees, I ruv Kalen ah Calpentah. The good bit about the unavoidable system of natural selection as you have outlined it, is that those that don't survive the mistakes, rarely get to multiply! It's easy to see how much wisdom and maturity I've managed to accumulate from the swathes of mistakes I've left strewn in my wake over the years isn't it?

The concept of an authoritarian forum member doesn't scan really well does it? Uh Oh ...straight through to the keeper ...again In your eagerness to cast me as some sort of bad guy who would denigrate a forum member by accusing them of being fascist (unless I felt they indeed were )...you quite clearly missed who the intended target was, not to mention the point, context and most probably even the post content. Oh Dear...what are we going to do with you Aloy ...you seem to freely, and with gay abandon, fling your own brand of horse manure around whilst complaining of the odour. You dont happen to live in a glass house do you Aloy?..If so I wouldnt want to be paying your premiums Im not even going to invite you to re read the conversation I was having with you and chats for fear you might find another completely unrelated and as far undiscovered implication.....so Ill go to the trouble of helping you how to read properly..... Rewind.........Play.. .....You greeted me with a glad to see me back...ok I havent been anywhere but anyway its quite disturbing that you may find it hard to go a whole day without me giving you some sort of **** and actually be happy about the prospect of copping a bit more I added that if I had been absent of late its because Ive been busy with work...which reminded me of what I had done at work recently and proceeded to entertain you with a little anecdote of an incident with a certain individual, not unlike yourself, who I proceeded to verbally hammer about his attitude towards Life, The Universe and Everything Liberal. Chats asked was this at work? (specifically) .....I said I could not provide details as this could be construed as a confession of my actions of giving a verbal political blast to an individual who could have me disciplined......by the fascists (those who would choose to discipline an individual based on their perceptions of what could be considered inappropriate behaviour )...so yes your highlighted defintion was the appropriate one...but alas Aloy...you missed the target...(again) A little clearer now? I think an apology would be in order that you would suggest I would call anyone a fascist (particularly a member on this forum) merely because they may disagree with me That is to say there may actually even be members on this forum who actually could be.....but I doubt it....but rest assured if I felt they were..I would point it out to them..without fear or favour. Please excuse the narkicity (now theres a word waiting for a copyright) of this post Aloysius but you really do need a lot of constant correcting ..especialy those Liberal Party leaflets that you pass off as threads Regrets melo yello <------- see the laughing man ...thats me

mello yello Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Has the other party has taken a dim view of the discussion and run off to the supervisor ? No doc its all good...it just silenced him.....I think thats a good sign It wasnt a blast... it was just me being not afraid to express myself....only a fascist would take objection to that....thus the use of the word in anticipation. Its all good..hes alright
