gavincato Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 hey guys as some may remember I have a HK AVR 630. Unfortunately it stopped working. It's under warranty and getting repaired however as I wanted more inputs (for when the PS3 arrives) and as I got a very good offer on a yamaha 2700 I bought one. I'm undecided whether to use the HK in the garage or sell it when it comes back. Anyway the yamaha is in and working. 1) The ipod dock sound quality is pretty garbage. It's very flat and lacks any warmth at all. Change the yamaha to pure/direct/music enhancer doesn't do a lot. The bizarre thing is - using exactly the same ipod, with the same files (192-320k files) streaming it to the yamaha wirelessly via one of the apple airport express units with itunes, it sounds a lot better! Really good actually. It's only when it's run from the dock it sounds bad. 2) At the moment I am using only component inputs - If I bought a hdmi device like a dvd player, can the yamaha convert the hdmi input from the dvd player to the component output going to the tv? Or can it only do that in the opposite direction i.e. from component TO hdmi. cheers Gav
glennb Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 Component to HDMI only. Don't think any AVR's can go backwards.
Gutty Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 RE; down converting, see page 22 of your owners manual here. I don't think it can do it. Running my Nano through a Kensington dock in RX-V1600 and getting reasonable sound with 192-320k rips. Maybe a dodgy ipod cable ?
gavincato Posted March 9, 2007 Author Posted March 9, 2007 bugger. might need to decomission my TV sooner than I expected to get one with hdmi.
