spurxiii Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 Before anyone starts going off at me for wanting cube sized speakers I just want to say that I made some compromises with the boss with the front and centre speakers and also the subwoofer. She wanted some home theatre in a box because it looked nice and suited the decor blah blah. I managed to get the go ahead for standmount sized speakers (B&W DM602 S3), a proper centre (B&W LCR60) and a kind of proper sub (Richter Thor MkIV). However, she wouldn't budge on the surrounds so I'm currently using some sh*tty sony cube speakers I got from a HTIB thats 5 years old. You guys have made me see the light. I was going to buy a HTIB after I bought my 50" Plasma panel (TH-5-PV60A) in October 06, to get some decent sound out of it, but after doing some research and finding this site I'm now very happy with my first Home Theatre System with decent speakers and an entry level yamaha AV Receiver and a decent subwoofer. My next purchase after some saving will be those cube speakers, a more powerful amp to drive the speakers. My question is, are there any decent cube sized speakers I can just get 2 of. I don't want to buy a whole system and just use 2 speakers. If so, what do I look for in them for some decent sound out of a very small package. Thanks again.
hoorootou Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 You could check out the Icon series from VAF. http://www.vaf.com.au/detail.asp?audio=ico...p;grunt=s1100r6
joz Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 So theres no chance of getting some 603s for the front and moving the 602s to the rear???
xr06t Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 perhaps some in-ceilings could be the way to go? WAF would have to be high on a pair of those for surrounds?
czzer Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 You could check out the Icon series from VAF.http://www.vaf.com.au/detail.asp?audio=ico...p;grunt=s1100r6 I can second that recommendation...the VAF Icons are very nice.
50mxe20 Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 What about the JM Lab Focal Sib/Cubs? http://www.lenwallisaudio.com/products/details.php?pid=585
drkrac Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 So theres no chance of getting some 603s for the front and moving the 602s to the rear??? I'm with you BTW nice HT setup - would say it passes the WAF quite well (well mine anyway)
mewetwo Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 You can get a pair of KEF 3005 or 2005.5 as just a pair or a pair of Gallianos (is that the correct spelling?). I know you can just get a pair of the above so that 7.1 can be created.
spurxiii Posted March 9, 2007 Author Posted March 9, 2007 I need cubes that can go down to 70Hz -3dB because that's what my centre goes to. Is there such a thing? And I have my crossover at 90Hz at the moment. Thanks again. You guys are awesome. I'm happy with my system and I don't know how to thank you guys enough.

They go to 75Hz - 3dB. The more recent B&W small speakers may be even more suited, but I'm happy ( and so is my wife) with the current combination. - and there's no problem with brand matching!
