achjimmy Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 problem is i dont have the room for floor standing speakers... so sorta forced to get 2 book shelves to sit on the entertainment peice!my budget is really bout 3k on a 5.1 setup so might have to look at the B&W 650 sub.... i just like really deep bass..... i think i need to go listen to some this weekend! I have the 650 and am very happy with it. I have a difficult room for Bass and it does it well. When i bought it i auditioned it next to the Velodyne (cant remember model but simalar $) I thought the Velodyne was better musically but the B&W better for HT. I have my AVR set to discreet 2 channel on music.
mquin1503560492 Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 good to hear some good responses on the B&W 600 SeriesIm thinking of DM601 S3 for the front 2, the LCR60 S3 for the centre a couple of in built B&W for in the ceiling for the rears and i really like the ASW 675 sub.... (its rrp $2499!!) anyone got this sub?? whats it like... i like hearing pretty base tones in my music and movies as i do tend to play them loud... I would also recommend upgrading your fronts and centre to the 602s and LCR600s as better value for money than to considering spending greater than $2000 for a sub. You should be able to get 20% off the RRP for 602's and LCR600 (at least that is what I got with a little haggling). IMHO the B&W subwoofers and not the greatest value for money ..... try Velodyne or Krix (and others). I was far from impressed when I auditioned the B&W subs in comparison to the other brands.

When i was looking they were not only Big subs they were expensive.

When i was looking they were not only Big subs they were expensive. From memory the Krix Seismix Mk 3's are about $800 and the Seismix Mk 5's about $1700 (price goes up about $150 if you want wood instead of black). The Mk 5's do have a notably deeper and fuller bass but the price premium was too much for me.

Thats not bad, I seem to rememeber there subs starting at around $1400 up. Problem with Krix in Sydney was for years they had no reseller anywhere west of Newtown (inner city) and that was a **** to park. They now have a dealer near me in the Mountains but i dont need anything anymore. Still got to put my vote in for the Velodyne i think they are great for $ and if i hadnt got the B&W 650 for $1000 all up would have gone with the 12" Velodyne. Jim
