Inego1503560167 Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 OK, I'm finally making the jump - I've gone for the Denon 2307 (box sitting at home waiting for the move this weekend) and have decided on the Hitachi 42PD960DTA (just waiting to see whether a local store can come close to matching $2523 delivered). Sticking with the SD Toppy til the bugs are ironed out on the 7000, and Marantz DV4300 until the HD format war calms down. But......I still want some other new toys! I've had a sunwave SRC3000 for a couple of years now (can't believe I paid $199) and it's good, but I haven't bothered entering the Toppy remote and some of te macro sequences are a bit clunky. Witht he other new toys, would a Harmony 785 change my life? Cheers Kent
Guest EZYHD Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 Witht he other new toys, would a Harmony 785 change my life? Cheers Kent Any Harmony will do and have WAF once programed, some find it tricky to do but once done its heaven.
50mxe20 Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 With the other new toys, would a Harmony 785 change my life? Yes, definitely.
Dolphy Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 Hi Inego, I went from a Sunwave SRC 9320 to the Harmony Xbox and my life has been changed. I would certainly recommend making the change. Rgds, Dolphy

Autocrat Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 The strength of the Harmony is that it doesn't do macros in the traditional sense. When a macro fails - usually because your children run across in front of the equipment while you are turning it on - the system usually ends up in an indeterminate state, whereas the Help function on a Harmony can recover from this pretty easily. It's also its weakness, there is occasionally something you really need to do that would be simpler with a more traditional macro. So, my advice is this: get the harmony but keep the Sunwave. Not to use on a daily basis, but to program macros into. Then you can spray the macros into the Harmony in "raw" mode.
taycon Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 I hoped mine would change my life but after weeks of programming it too is now gathering dust just like all my other 'universal' remotes...... I'm afraid my activities just done lend themselves to its activity based system....
diesel Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 do tell more taycon. I find it has changed my life and though can be tricky to set up, it's been well worth it

uhf 2 Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 do tell more taycon. I find it has changed my life and though can be tricky to set up, it's been well worth it I agree, I,ve tried 6 different remotes & the harmany is the only one that would control all of my gear. As said above it does take a bit of trial & error but well worth it in the end. Set the activities up & you will only have to push one button to watch what you want. Eg Watch dvd , will turn on the Tv , dvd player , surround sound ,set Tv to the right input , set stereo to the right input & volume & start playing the dvd. You can,t go wrong. Also I have the bottem of the range 520 so they can only get better right? My wife finds it easy to use which is a big bonus
Inego1503560167 Posted April 11, 2007 Author Posted April 11, 2007 Ended up making the jump to the Harmony and ha da bit of a play last night. I was very surprised that it didn't have the Toppy 5000 in the database, and was slightly surprised that the Hitachi 42PD960 wasn't there either, although it is a pretty new model. I suspect that the glitches so far are a result of this.... .....then again, I can't get it to turn the old video player on, even though the model was in the database. Not such a problem, because it might get used once a month at best, but still worth sorting out. Now just need to teach the wife how to use it (will start tonight), and then the 4yo, which will pribably be much quicker.... Kent
AndrewW Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 I know it's a bit late now but I made the exact same transition and it was worth every penny. I never actually bothered with macros on the 3000, macros are a breeze on the 785. The 3000 has been relegated to bedroom duty pretty much since I got it, the 785 is flexible enough that I have it set up so that it can be used in the bedroom and in the HT room. Andrew.

It is at least under my profile when I check my logitech login.
big_marcelo Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 my pieve with the harmony is that it doesn't do macros.... so I have the pronto as the 'universal remote to switch inputs, turn system on & off' since I have a lot of macros to use with my set up and different scaler settings based on input/resolution, etc... and I use the harmony as device remote replacement since the hard keys are not too bad.... however I do use the pronto more often and I bought the harmony as a 'new toy' ...
Inego1503560167 Posted April 12, 2007 Author Posted April 12, 2007 Andrew Thanks - your comments in another thread helped finally sway me into the purchase. I actually had set up half a dozen or so macros on the 3000, but they were time consuming and using them non-intuitive ("no, you need to select the TV picture first, then press 5 to turn on the DVD!!"). Mind you, controlling devices wasn't actually that hard. Mark I was surprised re. the Toppy - maybe entering the full code (TF-5000PVRt) was the problem. Mind you, I actually have the MP. Harmony appears to have learnt things OK, although I haven't found what the white Toppy button (delete) has been assigned to.... Would really like to find the correct 24PD960 codes though - it's recommended I use the 6600, and there is a bit of a problem with both on/off and the fact it cycles through inputs rather than direct selection. More playing to come - but I can't find an easy way to delete and add devices (to try anbd find those codes), or at least couldn't late last night! Kent

The Harmony does do macros when you start or end an activity, so you could use it easily for all your power/input switching and scaler settings. Just set up multiple activities for each "combination" required. To add commands to the activity start/end sequences (ie macros), select "Run the setup wizard again" and when it finishes, select "Yes, but I want to add more control". You will then get a screen where you can add macros to the activity start and end sequences. (This is for the web-based setup. The process for the desktop setup is slightly different, but you should be able to find it easily enough).

You can select "re-do initial set for this device" and you can adjust all the power and input options from there. You can assign the correct commands for on and off, and adjust how inputs are selected.
Inego1503560167 Posted April 12, 2007 Author Posted April 12, 2007 Thanks guys - I'm starting to really recognise the comments about things taking time - a few glitches to still sort out, but my wife already likes it and we know that "help" is our friend.... Kent
