Did a Forum Search and cant find any info on the Panasonic TH-42PH9UK Plasma. Anyone have any comments on what these panels are like? I take it I would have to plug in a set top box as they don't have a tuner?

What are they worth? as this one didn't sell http://cgi.ebay.com.au/New-42-Panasonic-Pl...7QQcmdZViewItem

Hmmm... 42" screen, no speakers, not much in the way of standard inputs - I can see why they're not in demand.

Cheers,

I'd suggest just forgetting this model and look at Panasonics Consumer range. The Vieras have a lot more inputs, have speakers, come with a pedestal stand (the commercial plasmas don't) and they are considerably cheaper...why would you bother with this model other than if you were doing Digital Signage or a commercial application?

This would appear to be the UK version of the Commercial Plasma. It's eqivalent in Australia is the TH-42PH9WK which has a RRP of $3300.

If one does a search on "Commercial" on e can find out a bit of stuff about the commercial versions as it has been discussed here before. And there are a few forum members that have them.

I personally quite like them, they have a better finish (I think), have a lot more options with alternate blades and often have better contrast ratios etc. As they are designed for commercial use they are more robust. Of course as someone else pointed out there is no tuner and speakers but if you've got an HT so what.

Personally, I love the Pioneer 50MXE20. But in the commercial panasaonic plasmas I'd have a really good look at the TH-50PH9WK.

I'd say the opposite is true. The commercial's have a lot more inputs and a lot more choice of inputs. One can soon get a stand.

I disagree. The Commercial plasma's don't come with HDMI or even Component video inputs. They don't have even an Analog tuner, no speakers, no stand. Yes you can buy these as extras but by the time you do you'll spend a lot more money than the Vieras. The RRP on this model may be $3300 but check out what you need to add on to that to bring it up to the 42" PV60A on the bottom of this post:

Less than $1,800 and this includes the pedistal stand, speakers, HDMI, a couple of Component inputs etc

Up to you but I know what I'd buy.....

I never said nor implied they came with a tuner (of any kind). In fact I said they didn't. (Edit: Not sure that is true actually - I see there is an analogue tuner board).

Also in terms of blades and speakers they come with anything you want them to come with. You just have to pay for it.

Also I never said they were cheaper with (or even without) the extras. However, I did say they were better in many ways. Certainly more flexible, more robust, and aesthetically and they look heaps better. But that's just my humble opinion.

I can pick up the TH-42PH9WK with speakers, stand and HDMI for less than $3300 (but that's not a source I can give anyone else). I estimate that RRP would be $4380. Sure thats probably more expensive than the Vieras but it is totally flexible and looks a 100% better. For that money I could replace the HDMI blades with anything else or I could pay a bit extra and have both.

Bottom line - I disagree with you. We agree to disagree. (And I would not buy from that source).

Hmmm...

So if I run my own 5.1 surround sound and have a HD Set top Box this commercial version is fine for $800? as I haven't seen a HD Veira new or 2nd hand for anywhere near that price.

$800 sounds a good price to me. But you do have to ask why it's so cheap and what it's life is. You also need to check the inputs etc to make sure of compatibility.

If you also have a DVD player you want to connect, you're going to be up for at least one extra blade to give you an HDMI or second component input.

Local warranty may also be an issue seeing as it is a UK model panel.
