BribieG
Watching Landline on Sunday. Last year the grape harvest was massive and up to 450 million litres of excess wine went into storage. This year, it was estimated that the tonnage would be about 2.2 million, but looks like coming in at 1.25 million thanks to the drought and reduced irrigation allocations. http://www.abc.net.au/landline/content/2006/s1860196.htm Some people in the industry are even suggesting as low as 1 million. Many major wineries are not going to get enough grapes. hence: The end of the $3.99 cleanskin and probably price hikes in casks etc. End of the party? Personally I drink Mercury Cider, which I can get for $29 a carton and it gets you well rat-arsed, but I do feel sorry for the winos.
