Brazzwald
LG have released new 42" and 47" 1080p LCD's, due end of Mar07, early Apr07. I know it's LG , but there is more to these panels than just 1080p , here are the features: 1920 x 1080p Resolution Built in HD Tuner (with optical out) Built in DVR HDD (160GB) 5ms Response Time Claimed 5000:1 Contrast Ratio 2 x HDMI input (also 2 x component) 3 year warranty Available in two sizes, 42" (42LB2DE) & 47" (47LB2DE). No information on their website yet, but I have seen the pics and they are an all black panel and stand, speakers on the sides (look quite good actually). And no, I don't work for LG . Not sure how much they will be going for in store either, hard to say with the built in DVR and 3 year factory warranty. As soon as info is on their website I'll post the links, unless someone beats me to it... Brazzwald
madmax
When are they going to see the light and put twin digital tuners in their tvs? Nobody wants to be stuck watching analogue while they are recording something! Get a grip LG!!
jordang
Is twin tuners really a concern? I actually wouldn't want to pay extra for that... it's something i would -never- use. We only have 5 FTA stations, and it's nothing but rubbish, so the possibility that two things are on at the same time are minimal. Actually, one thing on that i'd want to watch would be a miracle. qsphere
When are they going to see the light and put twin digital tuners in their tvs? Nobody wants to be stuck watching analogue while they are recording something! Get a grip LG!! I often wonder this same point and was told that because these are sold all over Australia and not all of Australia receives digital broadcasts, they would then have to put 3 tuners in (2 x digital and 1 x analogue) or even 4 tuners. You can also record AV1, AV2, component 1 or 2 inputs with the built in Recorder so if you have Foxtel you can watch on one and still record in digital or vice versa. I know Foxtel isn't the same but it's still better than Analogue. Otherwise just buy a cheap SD Digital box and use that to record from while watching HD. madmax
Otherwise just buy a cheap SD Digital box and use that to record from while watching HD. Sure, but if you need to do that then you're better off buying a PVR and a cheaper tv......
Guest Noticeably FAT
Sure, but if you need to do that then you're better off buying a PVR and a cheaper tv...... I'll go with Max on that one too! And besides, what use is the use of having PIP with an analogue decoder when analogue gets turned off after 2010??? Upgrade your expensive TV 3 years just to keep PIP??? LG if you are taking notes, please bring out to Australia an all in one True Full HD LCD TV including Duel HD decoders, recorders and 3 HDMI connections just like you have for sale back in Korea... "I'll buy that for a dollar"!!!
SBOB
these are available now, but the picture is down right terrible... no better than the 720 line LG and definatly not in the league of the sony or samsung 1080 line panels... shame really as at the price with a HDD its good value, until you look at it
Brazzwald
Here is the link to the models. I just saw one of these in H/N at Brisbane City. It was the 42", but priced as if it were the 47", typical H/N... It was running the Sony Spiderman 3 movie promo DVD on screen, through a standard Samsung DVD player. http://au.lge.com/md/product/prodcategoryl...categoryLevel=3 Brazzwald
HoffY
That looks impressive at first glance. On the specs page it looks like its a Dual HD Tuner on a 47" 1080p TV. But that was a quick look.

For an extra $500 RRP you get a HDD recorder built in, but only 1 digital tuner. For RRP $749 you get an LG HDD/DVD recorder with digital (SD) tuner. The built in HDD is a compete w@nk, something sold by crappy salespeople to misinformed consumers. But when your the only one selling them, and you spend that much on advertising, they sell. Hussla
We've got these 1080p LG's up against the Sony's 1080p models on the display wall at work running off a HD signal. The only advantage the Sony has over the LG is the Sony's blacks are blacker. Otherwise they are EQUAL. ALSO the LG has a 3 year warranty!

Sharka
or you could just get the new M81 Samsung.... has better blacks then both the X series and LG with a decent price to boot! Also has HDMI 1.3 support. I know what I would spend the money on.

In regards to Sony Vs LG, the only reason you love the LG so much Chris is due to the higher GP on the product, they LG are below Samsung, Sharp, Panasonic and Sony. I'm probably leaving a few other out too.
Gazzz
I just spent two hours comparing ps3 via HDMI side by side on the 47LB2DE and the m81.... ...... ..... (and trying out the ps3.. hehe In my oppinion, the LG won over the M81 for me. Dazzling whites, good blacks, 47"... mmm very very nice panel. NO jitter at all in panning shots (ps3 FMV) on the LG, whereas i noticed stutter on the M81 in the same scenes.. not good coming from a 1080p source! i honestely went in to see the m81 after all the hype i've seen here on this forum about it, but i was truly underwhelmed. Although initially both the panels where only running HD DTV (both via composite), the m81 suffered GREATLY in movement-artifacting. Like horribly. The chicks that talked quickly looked like they had mustaches . Whereas the LG was alot crisper, however noticably suffering from pan-stutter where the M81 didn't do too badly. I needed a panel that would 80% be a computer monitor, the other 15% DTV and 5% Wii ( ). The larger size, smoother movement, & inbuilt PVR have tipped the scale for me, I'm sold. And yes, it comes with a 3 year warranty. $4444 Delivered (campbellfield, melbourne)

Shonky*
unsure fish. Not something I thought about looking for... shouldn't panels always be displaying at their best? :P Yes they should. But in general all come with super dynamic settings to make them stand out in a standard retail setting. Read any decent review of a TV and the reviewer will talk about turning all the settings like brightness etc down for a better picture. And generally you're not going to find a store that has taken any time to set them up properly. They unpack them, plug them in and let them go with whatever they start with. Also they will always have fancy picture processing modes (like Movie Mode) turned on by default - i.e. why that question was asked.
ray888
Is anyone sure that the inbuilt HDD can record DTV shows from a second stand-alone DTV set-top box?
Gazzz
ray, only at 720p. Shonky, will have to go have another look. Max, I base my decision on more what works for me and looks good using inputs that I would be using, such as 1080p. I'm not sure what sort of option would cause jitter, as jitter should never be seen on a panel if the panel itself can help it, but alas I will try out this movie option (on/off) not holding my breath though. chester
So which is better - opinions please. the Sony 46" x series 1080p or the LG47" 1080p. Price is similar, resoution reported as same. From what I can see the only real obvious diff is the DVR in the LG. But I'm more worried about the best picture On another point, i believe that HD braodcasts in Australia are in 1080i and i know that my PS3 can whip up to 1080p. So will free to air go to 1080p? or is 1080i the last step - Am I well futureproofed at 1080p???

Gazzz
Lol. After coming from 2 panels with clouding issues, i was turned off both the x series and the m81 samsung. I pick up my 47" LG on saturday. Also, the LG has subs in the back for better sound. Will let you know how it goes $4424.

I hope you're running the sound through at least a stereo receiver if not an AV receiver at other times. It doesn't make sense that you'd spend heaps on a great display panel and not spend anything on good sound.
