JK200SX Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 Has anyone had experience in setting up an Antenna in Doreen (ie Nth of Hurstbridge)? Can anyone recommend an antenna and also which transmitter would you recommend? The hose is in a bit of a gully and deliberating whether to aim for Marysville or Warburton instead of the Melb transmitter. Any suggestions? Thanks, JK
mtv Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 I haven't installed any antenna's in Doreen, however I'd be inclined to think your best signal will be from the main transmitters on Mt Dandenong.
beeblebrox Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Definitely MT Dandenong you won't get Marysville or warburton not even on a good day... Depending on which new estate you're in will depend on how hard or easy it will be... ie if you're in Mitchells Run you're probably going to need some height or an amp... if you;re in Lauramar then you are probably ok... if you're back the other side of bridge in road then you have one big hill in the way and some height is often in order. once you get East of Doreen towards arthurs creek/hurstbridge lots more rolling hills and trees and it gets more complex. Nothing beats a site test with a Digital FSM ... There's plenty of spots around there that are 70+dBuV on all channels and there's other spots that are really crap. If you need help ring me.... as I only live 10minutes away in Panton Hill and do plenty of jobs out around there..
JK200SX Posted March 6, 2007 Author Posted March 6, 2007 Forgot the name of the estate, but its near Serle Rd if that helps.
beeblebrox Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Forgot the name of the estate, but its near Serle Rd if that helps. It's down below a reasonable size hill thats over the other side on Yan Yean Rd.... You may need some masting there... it just depends how far back it is... you maybe all right if you're closer to the trotting track end but be prepared for the worst...
Greensborough hills Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 I'm having problem in Greensborough with my PVR, and the antenne is placed in the roof, while my neighbours have there's on tall masts on the roof. I live of St Helena Rd, and am really keen on getting something done to fix, a glitching problem. I have cabled the house with quad shield, and I still get glitching when light switches are turned on in the house . Could this be due to low signal ? I have a powered splitter about 5 metre from the antenne, and i still get a lot of glitching. Can you point me in the right direction, or should I get you around for a quote ?
mtv Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Greensborough hills There is likely to be two issues here, one is poor signal strength/quality and the other is impulse noise interference. The fact that your neighbours have tall mests is a good indication that you may also need one, however, they may have been installed for analogue and it's possible that the digital signals may not require a tall mast. Having the antenna IN the roof will be a major cause of your problem, as it will be receiving much less signal than if it were mounted ON the roof, away from your home's electrical wiring. The amplified splitter is highly likely to be adding to the problem by amplifying the noise. Your neighbours tall masts could also indicate you are in a difficult reception area, so it would be a good idea to have a competent digital installer with digital signal measuring equipment do a site test and advise you further.
beeblebrox Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 G'day G/H, Hmmm... let me see, antenna in the roof, everyone else has high masts.... powered splitter (probably saddle and screw aka SAM204), and depending on which part of St Helena Rd, hills and lots of big trees It's likely the only bit that is right is the QuadShield RG6. Site test is in order here.. You need to optimize the signal being picked up by the right antenna, with the best location on the roof (definitely not in the roof), then if required you need the right amplification for the job. All this you can only do reliably with a Digital meter and RF knowledge.. Height isn't always an issue but everything else being right is. Only yesterday I did a job in Diamond Creek where I moved an antenna from being on a 15ft mast attached to a tall chimney, to being on a 5 ft mast on the fasica... just happened that where the chimney was , there was a 50ft Gum tree between MT Dandenong and the antenna, not to mention HV powerlines, crappy amp... etc etc... the new antenna was 25ft lower than the old one but in a much much better position. customer now has good digital reception to his three TV's. PS I don't give free quotes, I will perform a site test which I charge for and if you go ahead with our recommendations then we waive the site test fee give me a call on 9457-6655 or pm me if you'd like to discuss further Cheers Jason
