Semi-grudgingly; Ch7.

Why?

Because they are showing the support races and all of the races in the round as well as more of the qualifying action.

Simple choice in the end really. Would I much rather see all of the races of the round in 576p, or just the one final race of the round in 1080i?

Sorta shows how much the sport means if the answer is "I'd prefer to just see the one race at better resolution"...

Nothing actually beats being there for seeing it in full native resolution and with surround sound of course!

Besides; the actual video is supplied by V8 Supercar Australia, so Ch10 was just 'upscaling' what they were supplied, just as Ch7 is 'upscaling/downscaling' exactly the same feed - apart from some segments which would be network supplements to V8 Supercar Australia's feed, like interviews and shots inside the commentary box.

10 HD = 1080i

7 HD = 576p <== coca cola zero HD

10 HD = 576i upscaled -> low bitrate 1080i, but with added an added HN Spin Cycle® so that the whites appear whiter (really appeals to Chris!) and the coloureds, brighter (not so appealing, Chis).

7 SD = 576i.

however ... the amount and lack of timing flexibility of ads on Seven is a major Downer.

A bit early to choose after one race,i didnt think there was much difference between them myself.Did you choose your ht/hifi gear after one quick listen or did you have a few demo's before choosing which one you liked?

Can I ask a car question(s) in a car thread?

I didnt really want to open up a whole new one.....

Anybody here own/drive a BA...what mileage are you getting?

Did it improve as the car was run in?

Any improvement on Ford brake shudder with the new slotted vented discs or are they still as hopeless as ever.

I'd certainly be able to make a choice between HT/Hi-Fi gear after one quick demo if only half of it was working...:P

Ch10's coverage was of only (as they put it themselves) the "Main Game". That's akin to having only the front left, right and centre speakers working. Not my idea of the complete experience. :P

Ch7's 'full' weekend coverage is the 'total experience'.

There are of course, some people who are quite happy to have just a partial experience. They seem to get along quite well with only partial capabilities in so many areas of their lives... :D:P and good on 'em for doing so.

Not so sure the rest of us must become deficient just to achieve equanimity... :P

My father has a BA Ute, but mileage figures from it won't help much, because it's LPG.

With a bit over 10000kms on the clock, it's now 'very' smooth and quiet, no real mechanical noise at all (which ain't bad when you consider they leave the hood lining off on utes), and power was up a fair chunk by the time it hit 5000kms, and the LPG consumption did come down at around the 3000km mark, probably getting near it's best again at around 5000kms or so.

As for it's brakes, they are miles ahead of his old AU2, they don't grab or shudder at all, they have real feel, which I thought was a novelty in an Australian car...

I think the poll should have included "about the same".

I thought the CH7 pictures were lacking in detail and the comementary crew had no pizzaz, a bit disapointng IMO.

Maybe because the question would need to be altered from:

"Who provided the best coverage", to "Who provided the best picture quality and entertainment value"

From the perspective of coverage, Ch7 scores higher because they are showing Saturday's race/s as well the the Sunday final race/s of the round. And not just the V8's, but extended highlights of the support categories as well.

If the quality is seemingly poorer, it may not be Ch7's doing - because the video is being provided to them by V8 Supercars Australia... so the video feed is exactly the same (most of the commentators included) as Ch10 was provided before broadcasting.

The other factor worth taking into account is how well those who seem to prefer Ch10's PQ have actually had to wait before comparing to Ch7's iteration. It's been several months at least since Ch10's last V8 race round broadcast.

As you say; "they are about the same" if we are judging picture quality and entertainment value... but for me what gets Ch7 over the line is the extra couch time for watching this country's best drivers, driving vehicles most folks drool over (even if it's in secret) at speeds many of us will never achieve behind the wheel of our road cars.

Thanks Bishop

I looked at a BA MKII Futura yesterday with a shade over 26K on the clock and it had 13L/110klms on its trip meter. It has never been south of the Bridge I dont think and Northside traffic can be a bit harsh so maybe that figure could improve.

Consumption seems to vary a lot depending on how you drive them (quite different to some older models), I think it's partly the variable cam timing.

It's very tempting to drive them aggressively, because the engine changes character, and starts to feel and sound quite sporty, but consumption suffers, back off though and they go into taxi mode, which I suspect uses a fair bit less fuel/gas.

The way the big Ford makes power is really nice, I was never a fan in the past (the old AU2 was quite average, with many flaws), but since my dad got the BA, I have been super impressed with the package, it barely feels like the models of old.

If you had told me 5 years ago an Australian car drove this good, I would have laughed my ass off...
