Neon Kitten Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 It could be a Hong Kong release....mmmm released on Geffen in HK... maybe Taiwan .. released on "Universal" there Universal, DGC, Geffen, all make sense. This release, however, was carrying the Polydor logo. Nirvana records have never been released under that label. Once again, it says "special gold CD" or similar. That, unless you're looking at an audiophile label from the 1990s, is a virtual guarantee it's pirated. I don't know about DTS Entertainment being the only outlet for DTS 5.1 Discs? They, as far as I've seen, are behind 100% of them. And anything that uses DTS carries their official logo. And the logo on that disc isn't even close to being the official DTS logo (silly lazy pirates, don't they know there are places online they could have downloaded a scalable copy of the REAL logo? ) Regardless some of these pirates can fetch top dollar (depending how many are circulating) If the content is worthwhile, yes. Otherwise the only people paying top dollar for it would be completists who absolutely have to have everything. anyway proof is in the pudding .. how does it sound? Since no 5.1 surround mixes exist of ANY Nirvana studio recordings, the answer is obvious - it'll sound like every other bootleg "5.1 DTS surround" disc you might find on BitTorrent does (and there's been quite a few of them). Like utter shite. Fake surround is fake surround, and you cannot synthesise worthwhile surround from two channels. Period.

Dunno, not going to open it until i'm sure i can't return it.

DTS Entertainment should look into releasing a surround DVD-A with adevanced resolution and DTS 5.1. tracks I agree bootlegs etc are for the die hard fans. I must admit I could have been caught with this release as well.. knowing the Japs release many one off "limited editions" and the case where Warner has released material in HK on SACD. Re: DTS Entertainment, Shame the Sting album is only a DTS 5.1 music disc not a DVD-A. BTW all the best with the return Gutty
Neon Kitten Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Considering the interest this release has generated here.. DTS Entertainment should look into releasing a surround DVD-A with adevanced resolution and DTS 5.1. tracks Err... they already have, and I have one of them right here (Simple Minds' "New Gold Dream") http://dts.com/entertainment/catalogue/mus...pe=3&sort=6 The two Simple Minds releases came out worldwide via EMI, and did get locally released at a very good price ($26). I must admit I could have been caught with this release as well.. knowing the Japs release many one off "limited editions" and the case where Warner has released material in HK on SACD. Thing is, no record company with a brain is going to release an album as a DTS music CD these days. It just isn't going to happen in the real world. Re: DTS Entertainment, Shame the Sting album is only a DTS 5.1 music disc not a DVD-A. There was a Sting SACD released locally, though - "Sacred Love". The original release (Digipak) is actually a SACD, though you have to examine the packaging VERY closely to realise that. It's stickered as "Limited Edition" and these days can usually be found in places like Dirt Cheap CDs. Pity the album's dreadful, but ah well They're listed in the artists section of www.polydor.co.uk So is pretty much every other Universal artist, by the look of it
Skid_MacMarx Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Sorry Neon I was in a rush this morning and did not elaborate... I agree DTS 5.1 music discs appear to be a dinosaur I checked out their (DTS Entertainment) catalog last night and found they have DVD-As on offer I meant it would be good if they could release Nivana's Sliver and Sting's Ten Summoner's Tales on DVD-Audio (while I'm on wish list mode ..hey EMI how about re-releasing Rick Wright's Wet Dream ) BTW I noticed Sony in Japan recently released a gold CD .. so they have not died out completely yet http://www.hmv.co.jp/product/detail/1222410 I actually have a Sony USA Miles Davis Kind of Blue Mastersound Edition on a Gold disc.. it was released in the early 90s to celebrate 10 years of compact disc.. # December 8, 1992 – Columbia CK 64403, Mastersound Gold CD, super-bit mapping, corrected speed wiki gud knows Sony has made a cottage industry out of Miles Davis rereleases... I agree the early 90s was the "heyday" for gold compact discs
Gutty Posted March 9, 2007 Author Posted March 9, 2007 Update: The seller is going to accept the item back, for full refund minus pastage. I can post it for free from my end, so in the end i'll be $6 out of pocket. Have learnt my second lesson on ebay though that's for sure. Lesson 1: Don't buy knock off electrical goods out of hong kong. Doesn't matter how cheap they are, they're useless if they don't work as intended. Lesson 2: Don't buy off anyone called 99cent cds. Or atleast be sure the item is genuine before making payment.
