aaron Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 Wow. I was just looking at MSY's latest price list. They're going to have 10m HDMI cables for $35 bucks.
quijibo Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 About bloody time. The price of HDMI cables has been ridiculous. I am annoyed I waited too long to set up my HT room as I was putting off buying a 10m HDMI cable from HK for $29 until I worked out exactly how long I needed it for. The dude who used to sell them stopped selling last week just when I decided to buy it! Although just as annoying I dont live anywhere near a MSY store! Anyway I can't really see a difference between component and HDMI so for now I can live without it.
dvduser Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 Try WES Components (Sydney), I just bought some DVI cables from the (1mtr DVI-D DL M-M) for under $10 and they work a treat.
MELso Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 I'll grab one and a Joytech Trilink HDMI switch (at long last, a sensibly priced HDMI switch too) and at long last hook my XA1 up by HDMI...
Doug1503559538 Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 Anyway I can't really see a difference between component and HDMI so for now I can live without it. You're not alone there - I've never met anyone who could tell the difference.

Including delivery 10m hdmi for $42http://www.auspcmarket.com.au/index.php?re...ducts.php?input[category_id]=1408 Wow, and I thought I was doing well only paying $100 for my 10m HDMI cable from DSE. but then considering the next cheapest I could find was more than twice that price ... Andrew.

mossy1503559706 Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 I'll be looking soon at buying a couple when I get my projector, but from what I have read, the cheap ones aren't as good. Is this just BS or are the cheap ones bad news?? I still don't understand how Monster and those expensive ones they sell at Harveys can make a major difference! Mossy
MELso Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 Some cheap ones reportly have trouble doing HDCP handshakes, but if the cheap one does handshake correctly, there's no reason to spend more.
ajm1503559545 Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 I've bought a rubbish 10m cheapie that sparkled and dropped out every now and then bought a decent cheapie that worked like a charm. The problem is I need a 15m version and there aren't all that many cheapies in that size that are decent.

I never though handshaking was an issue with cheap HDMI cables, but certainly crappie HDMI over a certain length (5m) do seem to speckle. Often the same cable will stop on 576p, but speckle badly on 720p and 1080i. My advice, buy from a retailer that will return it if faulty. Don't waste your money on Monster, but be careful of eBay and other online cables as many longer ones are not compliant.
Mantaray1503560001 Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 I'll grab one and a Joytech Trilink HDMI switch (at long last, a sensibly priced HDMI switch too) and at long last hook my XA1 up by HDMI... Jaycar now have a HDMI extender HDMI In-Line Repeater/Extender Extend the range of any HDMI device, such as a monitor or TV, set-top box, DVD player, PC or gaming system, up to 60 metres (powered). It will work with DVI components with an adaptor. Plugpack included. • Supports resolutions up to 1080i/1080p • Size: 62 x 22 x 20mm for $71 item AC-1698 I have a 10m HDMI cable from them , a few months ago for about $70 and had no probs at 1081i.
SteveV Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 Any one had experience with the Ugly brand HDMI cable. He sells on ebay and the quality seems to look ok. Steve
theeld Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Any one had experience with the Ugly brand HDMI cable. He sells on ebay and the quality seems to look ok. Running PC (mythbox) DVI -> ae900 HDMI 100" screen at around 3.5m, no noticable degradation. Cheers Carl

Sean did a demo for me a couple of weeks ago there Ran a 15mtr Ugly cable $160?? vs a $240? Pure aV 2.4mtr cable (sorry can't remember prices now) on two identical 42" Viera plasmas on wall side by side with hdtv feed. I couldn't tell any diff on that sized screen.
RayW Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Wow. I was just looking at MSY's latest price list. They're going to have 10m HDMI cables for $35 bucks. Is there a MSY store in Sydney ?
Guest Psyd0n Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Is there a MSY store in Sydney ? yeah there's one in Auburn on Parra rd, sorta near the Hardly Normal. there's also one in the city, but i've never been there. look up their web page for addresses and directions.
ocujos Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 HDMI cables have certainly dropped in prices, but the good quality ones still cost more than el cheapo ones. Whichever brand you buy, make sure its manufacturer is a member of the HDMI organization. This will ensure that they fully comply with the HDMI standards. I have a 5m Kordz DVI to HDMI cable and have been very happy with the picture quality. I went against all rules of laying cables and ran my HDMI cable in parallel with 240V AC cable for my projector I couldn't be bothered to run another conduit so I decided to experiment and see if PQ is acceptable. To my surprise there was absolutely no difference between PQ when cables were run via separate paths or in parallel. I attribute this to the excellent shielding that all Kordz cables have.
voicecoils Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 I bought two 10m hdmi male-to-male cables from MSY - Ultimo. They're $35 each. The brand is Ritmo. I'm waiting on some HDMI-DVI adapters to start using the cables with my HTPC and laptop. I will report back when I get the adapters. The cable itself has "HDMI copartner" printed on it however the connector itself does not seem to have any official logo. They are not listed on the http://www.hdmi.org/about/adopters_founders.asp page. Anyone interested in a photo or anything of them, let me know.
wlimhill Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 I bought a 10m HDMI cable from MSY for $35, and have connected an LG DVD player to an Epson projector with the cable. Seemed to work ok on initial set up (1st hour or so), however after a while sparks in the picture began to appear, and the picture drops in and out. We also have a standard component cable plugged in, and when switched to this the picture is fine. As the DVD player, projector, cable are all new we weren't sure what was causing the problem. But everything seems to work ok though the component, and given that the cable is so cheap, I'd suspect that the cable is at fault. The projector is on the roof, so the cable has to loop up and down. Not sure whether this has contributed to the poor quality. In any case I think I will get a refund on the cable.
???? Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 Can anyone tell me where I can buy 'Kords' in Sydney... hard to find for some reason...
quijibo Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 I bought the 10m one I linked to earlier at http://www.auspcmarket.com.au that was delivered for just under $42. I've probably only watched about 3-4 hours of tv using it. It's hooked up from a HD STB to my projector and the picture is crystal clear, but so was the component cable. The cable runs along a rail with power to the projector, network cable, aerial cable, vga cable and a component cable all twisted in together for about 6m and is coiled up for about 3 metres. I haven't seen any signs of the hdmi cable, or any cable for that matter, suffering from any interference or degradation of quality.
norpus Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 Can anyone tell me where I can buy 'Kords' in Sydney... hard to find for some reason... Is it because you are after Kordz? If so, the website ordering works well http://www.cinewave.com.au/HDMI_cables.htm
