WARNING: This is not a discussion about the subject of kiddie porn. Anyone attempting to take the discussion that way will have their post reported.

That article points to a worrying precedent that is now set in the USA. As if all the sneak n peeks weren't enough, there is now a precedent set that allows your home and property to be searched soley on the reception of a single email, even if it can't be proved that you even requested the email be sent to you in the first place.

Its not too much of a stretch in Bush's USA (where evidence is already contrived) to 'suspect' someone of terrorism (or anything for that matter), anonymously send an email to that person where the contents of the email 'reinforces' the 'suspicion' and then to use that email in order to get searches and arrests authorised.

Home of the free? Not for much longer....

DrP, I gotta say ... its a bit unfortunate that you start a thread on "Land of the not so free", about freedoms, liberties and the like ... and prompty issue the executive order "Anyone attempting to take the discussion that way will have their post reported." :D:blink:

Anyway ... yes, I can see a couple of issues.

Firstly, it looks like the courts are aiming to "court" praise for "being tuff on evil crime" ... remember they are politically appointed. Any regime that treats "possession" worse than "production" or "engaging in the act" or whatever is morally bankrupt ... whatever the area - drugs, arms, etc as well.

Secondly, it does raise a nasty issue with people being set up by being sent illegal materials either by their enemies or opponents or even the "authorities" themselves!

In these cases, though, it would appear that the receipt of such materials was simply a way to allow further searching which turned up stuff that wasn't part of any set up.

However, it does leave the door open for someone to be "eliminated" by sending them such materials, and then throwing away the key for "possessing" them. :P

I only put that there to stop people dragging the thread off into an area that it wasn't intended to be discussing.

Yeah, I know ... it still is unfortunate in the context of freedom, etc.

However ... I am very familiar with threads being hijacked - and not just by Mel and his pics! :D
